Joking aside, I just would prefer lighter RWD vs. heavier AWD. Personal preference, nothing more.
And I have great faith in the Z06 platform, GM has clearly learned quite a bit in their C5-R and C6-R efforts. Go to a track day and see what the Z06 can do. I'm anxious to see the GT-R at a track day, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm also impressed with the late Z06. The handling and suspension tuning really seems to have matured. But matured doesn't mean that it's polished. It's still using the primal formula of brute force over finesse.
I bet it's far scarier putting down a screaming lap with a Z06 than with an AWD GT-R.
I also hear the shifter on the Z06 is the pits. Driving a car with a lousy shifter is as bad or worse than driving with a slushbox.

New GT-R was hand clocked at 7:38 and is now gunning for 7:28.

I doubt these publications have the time to do a battery of runs to arrive at a convincing statistical spread for EACH car in question. With that in mind even "official" times are questionable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the GT-R will be fantastic. But if I saw it at a track day, I would give it no more credit than the Z06, Ford GT, Ferrari Challenge, 400+hp RX-7s, 400+hp EVOs, 01-04 Cobras, etc...basically numerous other track worthy cars.

in the article they said an unknown driver, another driver i cant remember the name and the same driver who ran the Carrer GT at the ring were driving the GTR at the ring. they have 3 GTR spaced a minute apart testing on the track, i would think it is the 3 models of the GTR but i also read somewhere that it might be the base model.
Its all hype but it is great hype!
