The RX8 is a great looking car with a very nice ride and decent performance. If Mazda wanted to make the RX8 the fastest car on the planet.....then they would built an entirely different car then what you currently see.......is that what you really want? If you were that interested in speed....why did you look at the RX8? An EVO or STI or Mustang are all in pretty much the same price catagory. Any one of us could have purchased any of these cars.......but we each made a decision. The EVO/STI people felt the sacrafice of looks and comfort for performance was acceptable. The RX8 people felt the sacrafice of straight-line speed for looks is acceptable. Can't we all just get along??
That's the problem though. "Most" of the other car owners on here don't speak of the RX8 like that when it comes to performance. It's always dog slow or something else coming out of their mouths. Is the RX8 slow.............. NO(atleast not to me), is it slower than a EVO or STi.............YES. But people need to realize they're made for two different purposes. Me personally am not going to give up looks, ride, style, built quality and etc for 1-1.5sec off of my 0-60mph. That's just not a logical in my eyes. I respect the EVO's and STi's for what they are. Fast Rally Cars, but that's it. I feel the RX8 has way more to offer, hint that's why I went with the RX8.

They will. The new '08 Evolution X will be a better looking car and it's very likely we'll see a new Eclipse with AWD and a 4G63.

This is GENERAL Automotive section which means you can post whichever car you feel like. So I dont' see why you are flipping out on this one.
Like Steiner said, you are only making yourself look dumber dumber by posting.
Get your facts straight before you come out and say anything.
Lancer and Evo do NOT share same body parts. They look similar in general shape, but dimensions are different and platform is different in what they did.
I think if you go to evom.net and tell them " your car is ugly! , my rx8 looks much nicer and looks more like 30k car!! ", I wonder what they are going to say
Actually it would be quite interesting. Why dont' you go ahead and do it?

I would but I think they would like to hear about as much about my 8 on their board as I love hearing about the EVO on this board.

I don't really like the looks of an evo/sti either, but in no way am I going to mistake these cars as econoboxes with turbos... Sure, I agree with you that it's not the best looking car, but the fact they are mostly "go" and not too much "show" doesn't automatically mean it's not worth the money.
Sure, if an evo owner just came to the boards just to post a dyno,I admit i would find it a bit weird, but you must be forgetting that this is a former 8 owner...

Yeah, the pictures say it all. We all know Mitsu wouldn't make the car that ugly if it was a completely different platform

It'll blow the doors off 90% of what's on the road, so how could you not respect it despite the looks?

People understandably get touchy when you bash something they've spent 20-30K on.

You know that extra $5-6k EVO and STi owners spent? Use that money and get a turbo and EMS. Now you have a car that cost $30-32K that can compete with EVOs and STis.

I'm happy with my 8. I test drove an 8 the same day I test drove an EVO. The EVO is awesome. It's brute force and it lets you know. Handles nicely and takes speed bumps at 75mph with no problem (don't ask how and yes me and the sales rep were airborn). That was a fun car.

... but the 8 suits me and how I like to drive. Besides, I'm an underdog and in a race with all these excellent cars (S2K, STi, 350Z, EVO, etc.), the 8 pretty much is an underdog also.

Look, the 8 is still in it's enfancy and the EVO has been around for years. Our time will come. Question to me is, "how many 8 owners are ACTUALLY car enthusiast?"

I think the 8 has achieved toddler status by now, if the aftermarket was going to be strog for the car it would have been by now.

Also, your first comment is typical ricer math, I undertsand where you're coming from but think about what that all entails. The big upfront expense of a turbo, losing your warranty, having a highly tuned car that will in all likelyhood have more problems, and then an Evo or STI owner putting less than $1000 into their car and still being faster and having a warranty is many cases.

to each their own. what difference does it make? the 8 isn't as fast. definately not in a straight line, definately not in terms of grip, and most likely not in overall handling. i'm all for pride in ownership, but not at the expense of objectivity. i'm sure ike and i enjoy our vehicles equally, despite the fact that mine is clearly the slower car. i, however, can live with that. if some of you can't, why did you get the car in the first place? a lot of cars are faster than ours, including a stinking 20k hopped up neon (in a straight line at least). why is it that some people's vision becomes pigeonholed when an opinion, or fact, for that matter, is in contrast to their own? the truth hurts sometimes, but will that make you enjoy your rotary powered awesomeness any less? i guess for some of you that's a yes...i for one will enjoy my 247 --> 238 --> 232hp car just fine. and last is what our car makes. being faster than 90+ % of the cars out there isn't too bad is it?

Wow haven't posted on here for a long time, but damn some of you are some jealous haters, the guy simply posted his numbers he got on his EVO, nothing more, he didn't bash the RX-8, why do you guys have to resort to insults, what to make yourself feel better about your purchase, are you a little insecure?

The RX-8 and EVO are totally different cars, and the reasons one buys one of these type of cars can be for totally different reasons. The RX-8 is a very nice car, looks good, and handles nicely, but don't act like it's perfect, I guarrantee you could come up with a pretty decent list of things you would like to see in the next generation RX-8, mainly MORE POWER. Very few if any EVO owners purchases an EVO for the same reasons a RX-8 owner purchased their car for, for an EVO owner they like the aggressive styling, the all around performance, and power potential of the 4G63T. Who the hell buys an EVO because of the interior styling? Sh*t as long as it's functions and I can listen to some tunes, that's all I give a f*ck about. And I use to own a Audi A4 with a damn nice interior, and that sh*t got old pretty fast. What makes the RX-8 so special, the handling, well congrats, but you could have saved yourself a couple of grand and bought a 2006 Miata (which by the way looks very nice in person), very few cars can touch the EVOs all around performance for under $35,000 and the potential is off charts, yes it's FI, but very few FI cars can achieve the numbers as cheapily as the EVO does. So it's not the greatest looking car, but what EVO owners claims it to be, we didn't buy the car for that, and I guarrantee you my car get's just as much looks as your Rotary RX-8, this may be due to the rarity, people may look at your car and say "Damn nice RX-8", but I get the same looks from people who say "Oh sh*t is that an EVO IX!" And as a matter of f*ckin fact both of are cars will never get the amount of attention of this car-
http://videos.streetfire.net/video/2...162404D22A.htm

So stopping thinking you guys drive a f*ckin ferrari or bugatti or something. You bought your car for your reasons, it's not perfect, we bought ours for own reasons. Drive the EVO hard back to back with an RX-8 and I'll guarrantee you'll look at it in a different light. In my opinion the Rx-8 is just another nice looking car, there are things about the EVO that atleast make it stand out from the rest. Last thing, is respect, I have a buddy with a RSX Type S with an exhaust and every boy racer wants a piece of his of car, I can't seem to find a race, I guess it's the respect, I love it when I see a RX-8 driving hard through traffic, weaving in and out of lanes, and come to a crawl when he notices my car and is scarred to pass me.

I have a friend who has a nice black G-35 coupe. When my female friends get in my car, they complain about the flip down mirror not having lights, no heat seater, no 6disc cd changer. Once I step on the gas, all that goes away. And what's left in their face is the impression right after you get off the roller coaster.

Guess which car they want to get in wherever we go anywhere

Like 3000ways said, rx8 feels no more than just a nice looking, good handling car.
Evo feels special. And I like it.

Here's some pics of my car btw. I'll post more pics once my cf hood, work wheels, and coilovers.

Thats the thing with the cars you named, they are performance cars that are built with quality, Mitsu has never understood quality, hell they might actually be the General Motors of Japan . Does it really matter anyway, from what I read in the past 6 months, Mitsu will be gone before too long anyway.
So do you think the Mazdaspeed RX8 (or anything else) is overpriced?

First off, I LOVE the Evo! I test drove an Evo and a Ralli before ending up with the Rx-8. I would've bought the Evo over anything else, even over the Sti, but I couldn't justify the monthly payments. I will always support the Evo no matter how much I love the Rx-8. I got the Rx-8 cause it felt fast enough, handled good enough, looked better than anything, and it made my decision pretty easy to spend $25,000. The Evo I wanted at the time was like $34,000 and didn't seem like it was worth it. Although honestly, I'd rather have the Evo. My girlfriend freaked out in the Evo test ride though and said she'd never get back in it. The Evo is better for a solo ride I think. Plus all my friends who work on cars or have owned Mitsu's say that the Evo requires alot of maintainence, I don't know the truth behind all that but all the stuff they told me definetly turned me off. They said you have to replace the clutch and brakes and something else once a year. Checking the oil in the 8 as often as I do is enough maintainence for me. Again I would rather have the Evo MR, but not everyday with passengers, especially my girlfriend cause she wouldn't get in.
