I think it's been said already, but since I reported it was dead in the water I just wanted to say that NOW...I just read in the Newspaper that Autoweek reported that Mr. Lutz want's to build a GTO in 2008 based on the new Camaro.

As we know (enter Solstice, current GTO, and Viper here)...what Lutz want's...Lutz's gets!

I'm glad to hear it and I hope GM is smart enough to listen to Lutz.

So...the GTO..."might" live again in 2008.

Note: By the way the body kit on that orange GTO looks AMAZING! If that's what the GTO looked like at the dealership I might be driving one.

I wouldn't call this car a failure whatsoever. That's a hard task to sell a rather tame looking pure muscle car with no cheaper base models available. I will take a likely correct guess and say that more GTOS have been sold then STIS or Evos from 2004 to 2006. Lets take away the Impreza RS and WRX, and just make the STI the only Impreza model available, and see if it sells considerably better then the GTO. I think not. If you separate the STI from the Impreza lineup, making it the only Impreza model ever built, and being made. one can argue that all by itself in the case of the GTO, it would be considered a failure, and likely be discontinued. They still sold well, over 10k+ models per year from what I read, but apparently for one specific car, that is unacceptable to GM. They could not use the GTO name and build a lineup of economy versions around it. I think with that fact, the GTO didn't do to badly at all. I think it will come back in better form, probably disappear agaibn, then keep coming back long after we are all dead. I really like it, and If I could afford a third car, I'd snag one up right now.

I seem to remember reading a couple of years ago that the current GTO is just a 3-year stopgap/placeholder while they develop the next generation. The next one, being a clean-sheet design, will have more exciting styling and better suspension/brakes/weight.

That is correct. I read the same thing. It was rushed in due to the Firebird being canceled.

Great news!!! I hope they keep those ULTRA comfy seats but cut like 300-400 pounds off it's fat self...lol.
