1991 MR2 or 1994 FD RX-7?
I love both cars, there drivers cars, there fun cars to drive , I just don't know which one I should get? My wife will be driving the RX-8 since we got rid of our Titan, my Acura Integra will be my comuter car now. And we both agreed we want a sports car that we can buy cash and have some fun with on the weekends .
I always admired both cars when i had my Twin Turbo Z, the MR2 was always a fan favorite of mine, the RX-7 with its gorgeous looks and all around performance. Been doing my homework on both , just don't know which one to get!

I read that the cooling system , vacume lines all need to be upgraded in the FD. I driven one, it feels right, it feels like my 8, just firmer in the corners and faster.
The MR2 is a different car all together.

People are funny when they say that the FD is another league - http://videos.streetfire.net/video/MR2-vs-RX7_22280.htm
The MR2 enthusiast crowd is just as big as the FD crowd,,, with MR2 sitll fetching high resale among the enthusiast...
comparison 93 FD vs "94" spec in the video,,, '96' spec MR2 3SGTE engine is hard to beat , this is the engine Im dropping in mine, Twin entry Turbo, 265whps,,,,

That little MR2 would fly with that motor, with its 200HP it scoots nicely.
The RX-7 on the other hand can be built to be a monster , even though that wouldn't be my intention, 350-400HP would be nice to play with , with a built suspension to handle the power and corners.

Yup, if you get one, the best one would be a 91, in 93 they changed the steering geometry and the linkage, start with a 91(cheapest too) and drop the 96 spec 3sgte in it or a popular conversion now is to throw a a SC'd Soloara engine in...
There are plenty of MR2 Monsters that are more than a match for FD mosters, just check out the International MR2 Owners Club, there are some gorgeose and powerful cars over there,,

That is what i was telling my wife, the MR2 is a affordable Ferrari for the masses, mid engine, rwd all wrapped in a timeless body . She wants me to get the FD more, but I am hinting more towards the MR2.

The MK2 has clean lines and can look great with a nice drop, simple lip kit and a quality set of wheels. I love the FD though and this would be a difficult choice. If you like space and like to bring things with you then the rear hatch on the FD is something you can not add on to the MR2.

My nephew got a 91 MR2 turbo and is a blast to drive, it handles very well even with the small and skinny OEM rims/tires:
Looks pretty good in black too
But the FD is very nice as well, tough choice.

The MR2 is a BITCH to work on, and even a bigger bitch to GET worked on. A friend of mine and his Dad told me stories of when they worked on theirs n how long it took getting at things in that engine bay just for simple maintenance issues, not to mention any sizeable issues. They also tore down and rebuilt the engine. I drove the car prior to the rebuild and it still pulled pretty damn hard.
That being said, a nice MR2 would be hard to pass up in my book, even with the hardships that come with it...hell, the FD has a whole other book of hardships as well so i guess it all just comes down to preferance. A helluva dilema to be in though, lucky *****!

Here is the MR2 I am currently looking at, 131k miles, clean , clean , clean! Blows cold A/C , power everything. It drives great and the motor is real strong, it handles awesome! My only gripe are the black 17" mesh wheels, but if I got it I was going to go with a nice set of 18" wheels and a drop. Then a 3gste swap later on.
Suppose to look at a RX-7 after work, unfortunately no pics, its the montego blue.
Will see...

I say look for both and buy the best one you can find. When i was looking for a sports car I had narrowed it down to NSX, FD, 911, 928. I kept looking until I found one in nice shape at a reasonable price. I never did find an FD that I would have bought.

Not an FD, but how about a Turbo II Rx-7 vs. MR-2 Turbo vs. 300zx TT road test:

I worked on my buddies 89 MR2 and was like Efff that I can't get to anything unless you drop it out the bottom. lol
If you have the resources to drop the engine and do maintenance on it. Go for it!

Having no experience with either, my thought is also the MR2 is going to be more reliable, but the FD is way sexier. Depends on your budget, your mechanical abilities or your ability to get pay a good mechanic.
