19x11.5 wheels on a Z, Apparently it is Possible

Ran into this guy at a cruise here in Oklahoma City, his rear rims are 11.5 inches wide. The only problem is he is running almost the exact same tire size as me, and I'm on 9.5" rims. We are both running 275 in the rear. If you look at the picture you can see how badly the tires are stretched.

wow.....they are strecthed.....definately can tell in the 4th or 5th pic.....Honestly, I think it looks ok, but I am more along the function line then looks....or a good combo of each. My first move if I owned a Z would be to get as close matching tire and rims widths as possible in th front and rear; just to eliminate any understeer. Wish i didn't need my back seats.....I would be all over a white Z.

The wheel style is cool, but stretching that tire on an 11.5 inch rim and having them stick out like that is f'ing ridiculous!!! What the hell is wrong with people these days? I'm convinced this is a retro thing from the days that the Low Riders used to stretch 155/80R13 economy tires on 13x7 gold wire rims. Looked like shxt then, and looks like shxt now.

^^^ Right on.
Here's the spec sheet for those tires. 9"-11" range. Even 11" seems high to me for a 275.

The Michelins XGT's already look a bit goofy with how the tread doesn't seem to line up with the sidewall. Bad idea to accentuate that.
Here's the best shot. Take a picture of your ghetto stretched Michelins on a badly curb rashed rim.

First off, the rims are actually 18" not 19" like the thread title says...
Second, we have awful problems with clearance for bigger tires on the GTO. Cutting or rolling is necessary just to go up to 275's in most cases, so we've got to figure out the exact tire width measurement, because as many of you know, a 275 of one brand doesn't have the same width as a 275 from another brand.
I also think that a slight variance in the tire width, depending on the camber curve of that Z, will determine if he'll ever fit that tire in the fender without rubbing, even with rolling. He can't put a 315 on it. Impossible. Looking at the pictures, I think he's screwed, even though he stretched them thinking that a 275 will fit.
Just have a look at how much it is rubbing. Those back tires may already be junk. I see gash marks.

Thanks for that larger pic with the clarification of the 18" instead of 19" rim/tire. Why did he post 19" rims as his thread starter? Yeah 315's on a 18 inch rim won't work , to much meat under the wheel well. Although there is a 350Z running around here on 19" x 10.5 and he is running the 315/30/19's.... he has zero clearance and it looks like his outside of his tire is getting chewed up by the wheel well pretty badly. Looks nice, but I guess it isn't nice on his wallet when he has to replace those tires sooner than recommended.
