Does anyone know what the MPG figures are for the Mustang SVT Cobra. Do you know anyone who has one and what the actual fuel economy is. I'm curious and would like to compare it to the RX8.

I do. The cobra's overall observed MPG by Road and Track is 12mpg compared to the RX 8 19 MPG overall in their tests.
I believe the stated city mileage is 16 city/21 or 22 hwy.

Not exactly what you were asking but here is an interesting (old) article from Car & Driver comparing the rx-8 / G35C / SVT Cobra.

2003 mustang SVT Cobra/rx8 mpg
Hi Thanks for the response Rod. I believe the RX8 has a 18 City 24 Hwy rating. Not much better than the Ford. , which has a Supercharger.
I really like that RX8, but the milage is the pit's. I sure hope someone comes up with a ECU upgrade to address this issue.

My previous car was a 2001 Mustang Cobra. So far, my RX-8's gas mileage has been almost identical (16 mpg - 19 mpg) and gradually improving as the car breaks in and I figure out how to drive it. My driving is a mixture of mostly city (Florida style city that is, 50mph roads with frequent stop lights) and a little bit of expressway.
The 03 Cobra is super charged, so I would expect the gas mileage to be considerably worse.

As far as the real world gas mileage on the 03 cobras, I can't imagine that it would be that great, considering the fact that 390hp are just a quick stomp on the gas pedal away :D
I think it would be hard to stay out of the boost if I owned one.

But the fit and finish and overall quality of the car sucked.

Prior to the RX-8, I had 3 Mustangs--a 94 GT, a 99 Cobra, and an 01 Cobra. The 94 GT was my first new car and I was very happy with it--drove it for 5 years without any real problems.
The 99 Cobra was very nice and despite the horsepower problem, this was my favorite Mustang. The paint job was only so-so, but the engine and suspension were great (first year of the IRS) and after they upgraded the exhaust/intakes to fix the hp, it really sounded great (didn't feel much different). No notable problems in the 2 years I had it. I should kept this one...
The 01 Cobra was very disappointing. As delivered from the dealer, it was missing a lug nut, all the trim on the passenger side was loose, and the gear shift boot squeaked. I brought it in for all of that, they fixed the trim, replaced the lug nut, but made the squeak a lot worse and told me that 'they all do that'. 2000 miles into the break-in it developed an engine ping that they were never able to resolve. Shortly after that, the incredibly noisy transmission developed a leak. About the only good thing I have to say about this car is that the paint was very good, very few flaws, if any.
The RX-8 was pretty much perfect as delivered (the lug nuts weren't torqued correctly). In terms of build quality, at least vs. Ford as of 2 years ago, there's absolutely no comparison. Paint was absolutely perfect, no scratches, blemishes, etc. (didn't let the dealer detail it, though). I get the impression Mazda leaves a lot less for the dealership to fix just prior to delivery.
I think the interior is better designed, things are easier to reach, more logically placed, and there is a lot of new technology in the RX-8 that isn't available in the Mustangs (HomeLink, HIDs, NAV, whatever they use to light the dash board, radio controls on the steering wheel, etc). There's little stuff like the radio fading up when you start the car, the radio staying on without so much as a pop when you turn off the engine but don't take out the key (even more impressive--the headlights don't flicker at all when you turn the engine off), and that neat hand grip under the trunk door--a whole heck of a lot of thought has gone into this car.
The radios sound about the same (Mach 460 in the Mustang, Bose in the RX-8). I like that the RX-8's is modular, I replaced the CD with MP3.
The transmission on the RX-8 feels pretty good. Not substantially better than the Cobra, though. I am a *little* disappointed at how much noise the transmission makes, especially in 1st and 2nd gear--gear whine. It's the same sound the 01 Cobra made, but at about 1/8 the volume (yeah, the Cobra was that bad)--so, I shouldn't be disappointed, I just had the wrong expectations.
The clutch on the RX-8 is feather light and the pedals are better placed. I drove the Cobra (to return it, leased) after having driven nothing but the RX-8 for a week and noticed how incredibly stiff the clutch is and how disconnected from the road I felt. It's slightly more powerful, but... not nearly as much fun to drive.

As far as my 98 went, I had paint, tranny, stereo, steering box and rear end problems. The problems were not that bad, but when you also have a dealer who couldn't tell his *** from a hole in the ground, the whole experience just got frustrating.
I did get a chance to sit in an 8 the other day for the first time, and as far as interior egronomics and fit and finish go, the 8 is light years ahead of Mustang.
Gonna go with the auto tranny this time around (too much commuting) so hopefully, the tranny problems/noises will be limited.
I have high hopes for the 8. It is the best of both worlds. Stylish, fun to drive and you can raise a couple of kids with it too.
