2004 catalytic converter replacment

What's the best catalytic converter to replace the OEM? I'm on my second one now and it didn't last two years. OEM lasted about 9 years. Looking for a reasonably priced replacement. Any suggestions?

"Reasonably priced" will be a very short lifespan.

OEM, and an HJS unit that is cheaper but still a weld-in that bumps the price up, are the only ones that will last an extended duration.

HJS: HJS Catalytic Converter, Catalytic Converter, HJS Cats, Hi-Flow, High Flow, Hi-Flow Cat, Hi-Flow Catalysts, Hi-Flow Cats, Sport Cats, HJS, Porsche Catalytic Converter, MB Catalytic Converter, Mercedes Catalytic Converter, BMW Catalytic Converter, Fer

The 'best' cheap one that has been found is Magnaflow #59959. It still can't hold up to severe heat, so only use it if you are only ever doing mild DD driving.

I bought a magna flow catalytic converter from 4wheelonline. You will see that the material and finish is way better compared to oem, that could result for a longer life span.

The best quality paper in the world won't hold up to a lit match.

The actual materials used is more important than the quality by which insufficient materials is put together.

Nope. I don't recommend cats at all for rotary engines. Of course, this is contrary to the federal government and most state governments, and you should be ready to accept whatever results from it, but cats just aren't well suited to rotary engine environments. They die fast, clog power, and cause additional problems when they die. It's not a good combination.

I won't ever bash someone for using one, because there are certainly legal or environmental considerations that people may feels are important enough to deal with the problems sourced by having a cat. But I'll never recommend one and I'll do anything i can to avoid using one.

the cat converter that works isn't cheap, but then I don't believe that RIWWP has any prior experience actually using one ...

It's true, I have zero personal experience with using aftermarket cats on the rotary. I have never had a reason to try to experiment with them. Your experience with the HJS is why I point people to that one, and HiFlite999's experience with the Magnaflow is why I point people to that one. I even linked that same HJS link for you on the first reply of this thread.

I'll still continue to recommend no-cat as a first preference.

BigCajun has an off brand one, but I'm unsure if he uses it for anything more than emissions testing.

Not just me, but I was maybe the first back in 2006 since they had to be imported from DE until a few years ago ....

Yes, you are correct.
Walker direct fit, I bought it just to pass inspection.
It was on for only about 3 weeks.

That is correct. You were the first.

As far as I know that units has been the best. Cost money but you don't have to replace twice like Jedi!
