2004 Porsche 911 turbo vs RX8
Hello Guys. On my way out of work, I passed the Porsche dealer of my town. I turned around in my Rx8 and noticed a 2004 Porsche 911 turbo parked in front of the dealer. I stepped in and ask the guy for some specs and price. He ask me if I wanted to take a ride, just to feel the difference between the Porsche and the RX8. Well, I know that the 911 have a 415HP and 412 or so of torque. That thing was heavy, I mean compared to the mazda, it felt like a tank. It developed speed and you know that of course is another league of car but the mazda felt lighter and speddier at times (more responsive on demand). Dont know if is because of turbo lag or what but for just normal street driving , the power you get from it is not much of a difference from the RX-8. I dont think it justifies a price tag of $ 125,000 dollars. I was happy to return to my car and had a very nice joyride back home.

wha..i can't believe they let you test drive a 911 turbo just like that! that's awesome
well the 911 turbo isn't the athelete of the 911 range; the gt3 is, it's light and devoid of any bs. but still i agree, way expensive

Yes, I guess you can impress people if you show up after work dressed in scrubs. Still is a lot of money. I was expecting something more than the RX-8 for normal road driving. The sound of the engine is breathtaking but maybe because I thought that there was so much difference in terms of car name and all the hype on the magazines. Dont take me wrong the TT is a hell of a car,but maybe my expectations were too high.I mean there is no way to compare it terms of performance but people dont know that the RX-8 is a great car and fun to drive.
When I got back to my RX-8 , there was no feeling of : this car is peanuts compared to that monster. I was happy and with a smile all the way home.

but give me the GT3 if i had a choice with the new 911s. much lighter, no AWD, NA motor.

As I recall, the Twin Turbo AWD can pull a 3.9 0-60 (The vehicle thats ~130k). A friend of mine has one... I drove it, and its NOTHING like the power of an RX-8. It was a freaking monster.
Furthermore, the cockpit looked like something you'de see on an F16, more gauges and computer gizmos that one can imagine.
.. don't know if its the same car you drove...

I love my RX8 but the 996TT is in a completely different class.

ROTFLMFAO.....
dude that is funny ****. dont get me wrong I love my Rx-8 and prefer Zoom Zoom over Bling Bling, but it has 2 times the HP and 3 times the torque.
These cars should never have been compared. Back in 1992 when the 3rd gen rx-7 came out it was easy to laugh at the porsche and laugh since the FD could outperform it with ease. Its a different world today.
I love the rx-8 but its not to be compared with a 911 TT.

For the ease of my mind, I'd rather save the money, buy the RX-8 and perhaps buy another 50k under car. I'm not a racer, and on the freeway, I don't need to go super fast to impress. I'd rather be All Show, and not so much go here in Cali. Especially when I would worry about someone dinging/keying my Ferrari or Porsche... which equates to me valet parking all the time... which I wouldn't want someone to drive in the first place.
I would only buy these cars IF I had so much money that I wouldn't care if they jacked the car, I'll just buy another one.

I drove an RX-7 Turbo modded of course, and it'll take the 911 Turbo a run for it's money... actually I think the car with all the mods still cost 1/2 of what a Porsche 911 Turbo cost and it would kill it.

Lemme ask, did you get on the throttle at all. There is no comparison between a turbo 911 and an rx8. I love my 8 but if I had repair money, I would have bought a 1979--1983 930 over my Rx8 for christsakes, let alone a new 996. Turbo Porsches are absolute beasts with great fit and finish with one exception I know of, the 924--and that is still pretty quick by todays standards.
