As a BMW fanatic, I really think the BMW designs have gotten more bold and agressive for the better. BMW sales are up in every category, and they are performing better than any car in their respective classes. My dad's 7 is by far the best Luxo sedan on the market, and my mom's X5 is the best SUV. Worth well under 50% of its sales price 2nd hand after only 18 months, worlds fastest 'refresh' of a cars styling know.
The 5 series will sell well, only because , in the UK, there isnt much competition.
The X5 is only a decent car because they stole all the off road tech from (Range)Rover. The platform though is BMW's and a great one at that, which means the next range rover will use a ford platform , oops.
BMW's are superbly engineered machines mostly, but their styling doesnt do it for me, and least here their stereotyped driver attitude isnt somehting I'd like to be associated with.

The hood looks boring, maybe needs a rotary accent.

The X5 is not a "decent" suv. It re-definied the SUV market to produced "sport" utility's. If you have ever driven one, you would know the differance. We have owned 3, and also a new Range Rover. The Range IS a BMW X5 with Range rover styling, and hard seats. Every interior component is identical to the X5. Also, the E65 7-series has had record sales since it came into production comapired to the last generation.

Speaking of which - BOO to the new M5! The 200-2003 M5 was the last of the super sedans to offer a manual trans, the Audi RS6 and Mercedes E55 had gone auto. Now BMW joins them with this SMG. Yeah, the SMG is far better than an auto from a mechanical efficiency standpoint, but it's still no clutch-pedal-and-row-your-own-gear-lever.
