C&D 1/4 mile time is 13.2 for the STi and 13.6 for the Evo, so the STi is a bit faster in that respect. Also, since the STi has been available here for only a little over a year, they are not very plentiful. I have seen a grand total of 1 other STi on the road. Now that Mitsu is bringing over the Evo MR, we are hoping to see a 2.5L US version of the STi Spec-C.
But still, i just like the looks of the evo more, and the technology mitsubishi is using with these cars. The STi has better interior, its more of an everyday car, while the evo is more 'rally-bread', stripped for hardcore performance. And don't forget, there are stock versions of the evo (FQ-300) that have seriously more power and torgue even from the US-spec STi...

I like the spoiler on the STi, it shows what type of car it is (rally car). As long as it's helping performance I'm all for it. Personally, I like the Evo better though. It handles a little bit better.

There's a guy I love to hate who lives in my neighborhood, and drives a ghost-white STi. I like the STi, though it's suspension isn't as track compliant as the EVO VIII's. But, with a Praxis system...

Like I said, without the 300 hp, advanced AWD, big brakes, and tuning potential underneath the skin, the STi is not a desirable car. WITH all of the above, of couse, it's almost awe-inspiring.

I pretty much like the STi for its 300hp-300 lbs-ft torque EJ25 2.5L boxer-4, 3 LSDs, 6 spd, Brembo brakes, and plus its good for new technology unlike the Evo's old 4G63 technology, but theres nothing wrong about that. I would of thought the STi had better handling because the boxer engine sat lower to the ground which would promote a lower center of gravity and would equate to better cornering. Can any one help?

Well, the boxer engine thing is cool, no doubt. However, the suspension, wheel/tire package, curb weight, weight distribution, steering system, chassis stiffness, etc., etc., etc. all play big factors in what we percieve as "handling". Just because a certain feature results in "better" handling doesn't mean that it automatically trounces the competition. General consensus is that the EVO has quicker turn-in, a sharper feel, and an overal sense of "point and click", as in, "point car towards corner exit, apply throttle" and the results are excellent, every time. The STi is also considered an excellent cornering car, but the consensus is that the EVO has a slight edge in handling, while the STi is more powerful. It basically comes down to a matter of personal preference--which of course, you can only properly obtain by driving both cars.

Of course, if the RX-8 didn't exist, and somebody gave me thirty grand, I'd probably end up in an STi. But I'd have to listen to my wife complain about driving an ugly car. :p

i agree with Policy. i don't have an 8 yet but i get attracted to it more than any other cars because of it's looks.
when i take my ducati out rather than my kawi they look at me different, "oooo look at the ducati!!!" kawi is faster, lighter and whatever but duc's got looks and it can move almost as fast around the track.
between Evo, and Sti, my choice is Evo. Evo may be slower than Sti, but looks nicer to me.

I'll be honest, my passion for the RX-8 (no, I don't own one, I'm just in love with the damned thing) is based a lot on its appearance . . . of course, uniqueness, performance, and practicality are all big factors too, but to me the RX-8 is ultimately sex on wheels. I can't remember which owner it was on here, but somebody in LA was talking about how they pulled up to a club, and the manager offered them VIP parking--next to a Lamborghini Mercielago. News flash, folks--that ain't happening because of the rotary engine or 50/50 weight distribution. It's because the RX-8 is f'n sexy as hell.

only the front end of the 8 is sexy. even so, the s2000 is pretty much similar. But i find the rear end a bit weird. It gives the 8 a tall skimpy look. not to mention those ricy tail lights.
3/4 frontal view is the best IMHO.

Okay, yeah, the tail lights are ricey. But the MS rear bumper and wing balance out the rear view quite well. And the rest of the MS kit . . . dear LORD is it drool-worthy!

Time to face the truth here. If the rx8 didn't look so damn hot, it wouldn't be what it is, and personally I would not own one, and I many peple on here would not either. Even though it's underpowered against it's competitors, the looks alone is what gives it the edge. Of course it's handling and features certainly add to it. When it came time to buy, I sat there and thought about what was more important: LOOKS AND REFINEMENT or POWER AND HIGH PERFORMANCE. I chose the ladder, and I hope one day the car can give me bothso I can stop thinking about the STI.
