NO MORE 2006 S2000 Blues
Well. I have been trying to find a deal on a new yellow 06 S2K, to replace my current 01, and nothing is working. These dealers will not give me the time of day. I got my RX8 for below invoice, the STI for below invoice, and I have now tried 4 honda dealerships, and they basically all laugh when I give a number even close to invoice. I just feel like venting. I finally find my favorite fun car, and I if I want a new one I have to shell out the extra $$$ for it. I will not pay over invoice, so I'm stuck with my 01 for now. I'm not giving up, but it looks like if I want to get a great deal on a car, I better either trade my sti in for a new one, or trade the S2K in for an RX8, neither of which I will do, until the RX8 comes in a convertible. The S2K is too limited and desired for it's own damn good. Somewhere out there I can find an 06 S2K for invoice, but it looks like I'll have to search long and hard, and travel, because where I live, there are no deals. I'm sure the time of year plays a huge role in the pricing right now, so for now it's on hold.

damn, I was just by the honda dealership getting some maintenance on my mom's civic. I love that little 'vert, if the rx-8 had never come out thats most likely what I would be driving.

I hear ya. There's one main reason I got rid of my RX8. I chose STI over it as a daily, and the S2K over it as a fun car. My how sweet it would be to add a 2006 RX8. I wish I could afford it, but I'm still making payments on my S2K, so that's not happening.
robrecht: Thanks for the info. I'd like to avoid a long drive, because if the price, trade in, and financing isn't right, I'm not buying. I got a dealer in Philly that gave me an absolute rock bottom 500 over invoice, and it might not get any better then that at this time. The local dealer here seemed to think I was one of those suckers, because he emailed me saying the internet special for the car is $34100, a mere $2917 over invoice, and he had the nerve to tell me this price is only good for 3 days. I responded by saying if he offers a price near invoice, I'll gladly come in and talk. He's been ignoring my phone calls ever since. The other dealer about 20 miles away said $32600 ($1417 over invoice) is their absolute rock bottom price. I sense a confidence that these cars will sell for way over invoice, therefore they just don't care. The dealers don't like a guy like me. I'm not going to haggle. It's straight up what's your price, and I can easily walk from any car purchase. I'll give it a few more days, and then it's done. Having my 01 for summer isn't such a bad thing.

What differences do the 06's have compared to the other years? I am thinking about buying a used S2000..I'll have to sell the RX8 though.. what year would be best to buy? THere are plenty 04's and even some 05s I think for around 25k with really low miles..

Come south old friend, come south, there is a new 04 that has been sitting on a lot here for 13 months. They are practically trying to give it away. Half the dealers around here wont even get s2000's anymore just because they can't get rid of the things...

The new one has a new rear member to reduce the snap oversteer that occurs in the old one (that has an anti-lift effect)
The new engine redlines at about 8400 rpm and 2.2 litres
A facelift
Bigger rims

Sorry about your difficulties VikingDJ. It could be worse though.
I went to a Honda dealer to check out the '06 S2K too. The salesman was trying to work me and another customer at the same time. They didn't have any brochures and the salesman sat me down in front of a computer to print a brochure of Honda's website. I could've done that from home, jackass.
I filled out the form to have them mail me a brochure and he was talking to his other customer. I went to walk around the lot and check out colors/options. Guess what? They didn't have a single S2K on the lot. This is a pretty big dealer too.
If it makes ou feel any better, at least there are some available by you. Anyway, I'm off to check their website to see if there's any around my area. Good luck, stick to your guns.

Well, the 2000-2003 S2K is thew 2.0 engine with 8900 redline. The 00-01 models have that plastic window and are the most raw. 02-03 upgraded the sound system, added a glass rear window and rear defogger, and refined the interior up a bit. In 2004, the car got new tail lights, front bumper, the 2.2 liter engine that is more powerful, but only has 8k redline. In 2004 they also upgraded the rims to 17s (much nicer), and added traction control, along with a much more comfortable suspension. Now for 2006, they added 4 integrated roll bar speakers (superb sound), restyled the rims, and added stability control. That's basically the jist of it. However, make no mistake about it. I had my 01 lined up next to the 06. The yellow has changed a bit (Spa Yellow to Rio Yellow Pearl). The interior is touched up nicely as well. The changes are very apparent, and this 06 trumps my 01 in every way, except maybe for losing 900rpms on redline.
I definitely have a raw version of the S2K, and I could miss the 8900rpm redline, but the reality is that lowering the redline makes for a longer lasting car, and trust me when I tell you all, 8900rpms on the S2K sounds like bloody murder to this engine. I usually shift at 8k anyway. Also, the torque is noticably better on the 04+ models, the torwue is higher, and even though the hp specs have not changed, the 04+ models have already proven to dyno at about 10 more whp then the previous models. That pretty much sums it up. Another used S2K is not an option for me at this time. It's 06, or I keep mine.
I am pretty sure the S2K sales have dropped majorly, but this is also why it can be difficult to find a deal. Dealers only have 1-2 on their lots now, so they are not quick to pull trigger on an invoice or below sale, when they only have 1 model in a showroom. Honda simply has lowered production to meet the lower demands. If they did what Mazda does with RX8, and kept popping them out beyond demand, I'd get one for like 5k off msrp. I am pretty sure the S2K is gonna be finished soon. It had one hell of a run though for a pure performance roadster.
