2007 Camaro

i don't see what the huge issue is. the corvette engine is and has been used in other vehicles before. i was used in the impala ss of the mid 90s. it was used in the camaro's and firebirds of the late 90s...
and from all of my examples, it doesn't matter that one is chevy/pontiac/saturn/gmc/what not...they are all gm products, and therefore have access to each other's parts/platforms.
same thing with audi/vw, nissan/infiniti, toyota/lexus/scion, honda/acura...

My first car purchase was a used '68 Camaro, red/with the black racing stripes! I loved it and yea, it hauled butt!! My older bro had the '69 Chevelle SS.
He's a total 'vette man as he is about to order his third one. But he stayed single and alas, I didn't and became a proto-typical SUV dude for all these years...until NOW!! woo-hoo!
Mywife had one of the first new convertible mustang GT's last month, but she had to turn it in when she left FMC.
I wish I'd never have sold my '68 'maro, but now I've got that same orgasmic feeling with My Shinka.
Cheers!

The biggest issue has nothing to do with platforms or anything like that.
It's the Unions. And, no, that's not some sarcastic anti-Union comment.
GM has a contract with the Unions that says that all Camaros MUST be built by the Canadian Auto Worker Union at a plant that no longer exists because GM tore it down. GM has a lot of work to do with the Union and the Canadian Government before it can even think about beginning Camaro production again.
The fact that all previous design work was done on the Zeta platform which GM will no longer be using in the US for at least several years is also going to hold the Camaro off for the forseeable future. GM has other RWD chassis but they are either too expensive or too small, and then they're still stuck with a contract requiring Camaros be built in a factory that doesn't even exist any more. GM could change the name to allow it to build the car elsewhere, but it's unlikely to do so and it would probably **** off the Union and the Canadian government if it did that anyhow.

To build on what Sigma said, GM is in a world of financial difficulty. After the fall out, maybe a Camaro will come or something like it. But right now, they tried to make the GTO work as kind of compromise for the enthusiast crowd and look how that's selling. Yeah, the GTO is MSRP in the mid 30's, not 20's, but still not a good indication for them.

Actually Red Devil, very much unlike the 2004 model, the 2005 GTO is selling quite well. It's meeting all expectations and it was selling so well under the "Employee-Discount-For-All" deal that it was removed from the program altogether when it was renewed a few days ago.
But, it is not a particularly profitable car. If GM is making money on it, it's not much. GM hoped it would bring some attention to Pontiac, unfortunately that faltered with the poor 2004 performane. But it is making it to bring utilization up on the Holden factory to spread costs in an effort to help make Holden more profitable as a whole.

didn't know that about the union contracts. Good enough reason to scrap the Camaro forever, and build a smaller, lighter, good handling, 350Z destroyer. It'd be easier now that the Vette has so much power. It was hard to keep from stepping on the Vette's toes in the past, powerwise.

I actually like how the GTO is ultra subtle. Its one of the few current generation sleeper cars.
I think the whole "look at how big my ***** is based on my wing/wheel size and multiple vents/scoops" thing has gotten way out of hand.

So is GM going to start pulling "The Death of Superman" and the Rolling Stones "Final Tour" gimmics? Get you to buy the current version because they tell you that vehicle is being retired/discontinued, and then a few years later release it again. Oh well, I guess it worked for George Lucas and his endless versions of the first trilogy.

it's already up for redesign as a 2008 model

That Camaro design is really cool. It would make me seriously 'think' about switching.
I kinda like the looks, however, of the blue one on the bottom of the page.....it certainly brings back memories of the 60's styling. But if they really don't want to go full on retro, then the Orange one has my vote.
Hmmmm....is the Firebird/Trans Am far behind?
