they can easily detune the ls2 for the camaro without going to a new engine on the vette

...also....i've heard from sources close to the Camaro production that it will not be using the LS2, they've been talking about using the LS3 for the Camaro and a new C6 for a while now...but i'm not saying much more than that :x

whatever the case is, im just saying it make more sense that the LS3 is for them to stay competitive vs the german engines making 400+hp than to make room for the camaro. they make it a point to make the vette the best bang for the buck.
corvette dosnt usually change engine in the middle of a generation.

I see no reason for GM to stop doing what they have always done with the 'maro... provide a detuned version of the current Corvette engine.
What this essentially does is create a HUGE aftermarket for EXPENSIVE Corvette parts. Case in point, the LS6. A main difference between the LS6 and LS1 were the heads. Though, those heads were transplantable between the two engines. So, people bought them up, gidgetted them around to work perfectly, and threw them on there. I can not remember the cost of LS6 heads off of my head but they were over $1,000. Cha-ching.

I got rid of my Camaro last year, said point in my life. The 8 cheered things up though. By the time the New Camaro comes out the 8 will be paid for and hopefully I'll be making more money. So I foresee one in my driveway

I'm guessing the V8 version whether they badge it as a Z28 or SS will be in the low 30's. At least I hope, realistically probably mid 30's. Still doable though, just please don't let it be more than 40K

And they are going to try to make it around stang GTs price, maybe slightly more, maybe slightly less...they haven't anounced real numbers yet, just goals

The best way to do it...make it cheap like the stang, 27k bare...and go all the way up to 33-36k loaded with goodies.

More things to be added to the conversation are things such as GM planning to make the Camaro faster at every trim level (something I read somewhere)! How they go about doing that is actually the big question. Ford is planning on bringing out a new V-8 in the Mustang from some of the things I've read. More than likely this will mean a jump in hp. GM may be ensuring the Camaro remains the faster car. As far as keeping the Corvette on top that is not a problem for them even if they share the BASE engine with the Camaro. They still have the Z06 with 500hp and the rumored SS (AKA "The Blue Devil") with north of 600hp! Even if they share the base engine it's not that big a deal...I've got an issue of C&D that has the base Vette with 400hp accelerating faster than the 500hp Mustang GT500 (more than 3 sec faster from 0-150)...and of course the Camaro is going to be heavier than the Vette. It should be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out!
