2008 Nissan Skyline

Hey everyone, i just read the Automobile magazine while i was at the doctors two days ago and read over the article about the new Skyline that might actually make it to america. Rumors were spread that Nissan would bring a skyline to America in 2007 under the make Infinity as the Infinity GTR 35 sharing the same bodystyling as the now Infinity G35 coupe. Well, nissan making a new skyline sharing very few features from the G35 coupe will be out in 2008 rumored to actually be brought to in America. Engine is rumored to either be a V6 Twin Turbo AWD (of coarse) or a N/A V8. Either way, its gonna be 400+ hp.

Anyways, i'm sorry i dont have a picture for all of you to see. I just want to know for those who seen this article and seen the skyline, do you think its worth it? Its said to be $70k base price. Well under the legendary GTR 34. Also, do you think that they'll be able to bring the V-Spec version of the skyline over to america (if they do bring the skyline to US)? For me, well i doubt the V-Spec version will be brought here but i'm anxious to read and actually see the skyline here. It looks like the rebirth of the Japanese super cars is arriving again! Thanks for reading everyone! Later

-Jon

the new GTR will look similar to the G35 but with a new facelift.... it should be the V6 Twin-Turbo since all other skylines were 6 cyclinders and turbocharged.... somewhere around 400+hp... 4WD with 4WS(4 wheel steering)... the rear wheel steers up to 2 degrees i think to either direction to help handling... for all those of u that thought 4WS was crap and useless... the R34 had 4WS too...

what i'm thinking is the GTR 35 will be the rebirth of the R34 GTR while the G35 will be just like the SkyLine GT-S in Japan with less power and goodies...

thought the japs have ditched the turbo option due to their newer emmissions regulations

I think edmunds had somewhere like 80k as the price target, and it will be an infiniti not a nissan.

I doubt they'll put it in the G35 body, I think they're just testing the engine on it right now...by 08 that model will be 5 years old and due for a refresh anyway

Those look familiar, and by that I mean like I've seen them a long time ago. I'm not entirely sure if those are the same, but either way I'm not really digging this. I'd rather they took the G35 body with a few slight modifications(lightening, maybe integrate something like the old style lights with a bit of a refreshing theme to the older version) as well as the nice power upgrade. I'll be disappointed if this is what Nissan brings to the table.

yeah, that was pretty much the first ever concept for a skyline, years ago. Nobody liked it.

my guess it will end up as a v8 varient of the motor they put in the titan and armada.... if it was gonna be TT v6 it would have a harder time with emissions, and they would prolly use the 3.0L VQ30DE, like they have in the GT500 cars

Thanks for the reply everyone, well, im about to go bring my car in for recall tomorrow and right next to my dealership, there is a Nissan dealership with car enthusiast dealers. I'll ask them whats up.

Well, i believe that it'll be a V8 again due to emissions regulations. Well, on the other hand, its pretty cheap compared to importing a R34 and i remember reading its on a whole new platform that the G35 coupe.

Also, are you guys serious about trading in your RX8 for a skyline (i'm just wondering)? I respect the skyline but i dont think i would ever part with my rx8 (just my opinion). Well, if you guys do trade it in, lets get some pics (in like two or three years)!

What are some other thoughts on the skyline? Likes/dislikes, etc.?

WRONG!!. It will look NOTHING like the G35. My buddy (although not working on the GT-R Project) is a car designer for nissan. So far, the current design looks nothing like the concepts we have seen. Except for the round tailights....that's all he can tell me. Same platform, but that's all it is. Its a disguise.

And as someone mentioned, the current idea is to use a tweaked verwion of Nissan's v8 (titan).

Don't bother asking your dealer. They'll feed you some B.S. making it look like they know what theyre talking about. 95% of dealers don't know squat as to what happens on the inside. Find someone involved in R&D instead.

Oh, and Rx-8 and the new GT-R will be on two completely different levels in both performance and price. Its like saying, I"ll trade my Rx-8 in once the new Z06 comes out. If you got the cash, then go for it. I know I would

whao those pics are so old its not even funny.

This is the latest info I have, they mostly come from g35driver.com and my350z.com...

Look:
the GT-R will be based on the next reskinned version of the G35 due in the 07 model year. unlike the basic 07 skyline/g35 the GT-R will have a more agressive look to it. The GT-Rs from the latest spyshots running at Nurburgring are test mules using the G35 body. The next gen 07 g35/skyline supposedly will have similar tail lgiht design as the current G35 but different looking front lights.

Engine:

possibility of using a V8 has died down. The rumor started with Infiniti of America asking Nissan to offer the G35 with a 4.5 liter V8. It actually didnt have anything to do with the GT-R, which is a Nissan of Japan project. Infiniti and Nissan of America are not involved in the development process at all.
Nissan is currently considering two possible engine setups. Both are based on Nissan race cars as is every previous GT-Rs in the past. (nice tradition!)
The next gen GT-R engine will be based on the Nissan GT500 race cars. The two variants being considered are VQ32DETT and VQ35DETT. they are twin turbo 3.2 liter V6 and twin turbo 3.5 liter V6 respectively. hp will be at least 450hp according to autoweek.

Suspension:
tuned by Lotus, will be based on current G35/350Z multilink setup.

When will it be sold in the US?
late 2007 as a 2008 model under the Infiniti badge.

Price:
~70k starting price, should easily get into the 80ks when fully loaded.

Ack! Crazy prices, I'm not so sure it will sell well in that range but I guess we'll wait and see. The engine possibilities sound nice though. I can't wait until they are out, I'd love to see one. I'll bring my dad along and have him get me a test drive :p

Oh, thats for reaffirming my thoughts that these pictures were way old. I knew I'd seen them before.

You know you would? But which one, Z06 or GT-R?

At $60K, I might consider a GT-R, but the Porsche Cayman is my current favorite in that general range. At $70K+, unless the looks are an absolute knockout (which I doubt), I'd go for a Z06 or a 911. In reality, I think it would need to be around $50-55K for me to consider it over the established players.

The GT-R is a legend in Japan and among some car enthusiasts in the US, but most in the US really don't know that much about the car. And most of the Fast and Furious types that do, probably can't afford one.

I think Nissan would be wise to keep the price down in its initial year, instead of heading directly into the 911's territory.

The performance is aimed to best the 911 turbo, thats been the goal since nissan started to design the next GT-R. It should shatter the regular 911s in terms of track performance. So 70k is a bargain. The Z06 will always stands for the best bang for the buck, and the hp/dollar champ. The next GT-R will be an infiniti, not Nissan. Its going to go up vs the Lexus LFA and the Acura NSX. If you look at the competition, the GT-R will probably be the cheapest one of the 3 actually. I dont think Nissan is trying to place it as a high volume seller at all, but a company Halo /flagship car. Most of us probably wont be able to afford one new.

personally Id rather go for a Z06 and call it a day. I am however looking forward to seeing tunned 1000+whp GT-Rs roaming the streets in a couple of years.

None of you know anything because Nissan has yet to make anything official except that the car will be in the USDM by 2007.
