2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe

The early speculation from spy shots was a new tibby on a *gasp* RWD platform! But yeah, if you didn't like the tib then you won't like the genesis.
Personally, the tib was/is one of the few cars on the road that looks to at least be an attempt at differentiated lines. Everything else looks exactly the same, only slightly wider/longer/fatter when side by side. (See: G35, G37, Z, New Altima, etc. etc.)

They use the same base platforms to save money on R&D and production and it did do wonders for Nissan, bringing them back from the brink of bankruptcy.

I saw a car carrier with two black Genesis Coupes on it yesterday afternoon - they look pretty sharp in person. I was kind of up in the air with the photos going around, but I was impressed once I saw these in person.

Though I do agree in general with what your saying... All your examples are from the same car maker. What do you expect.

I saw one in person and it looks better then on pics ... with just diferent front grill, front looks really good...
aint nothing wrong with tiburon - tiburon was designed off Ferrari 456 GT, and it looks better then anything below 20k ... http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/hyu...beron-tuscani/

it is on par with other cars in its class ... rsx-s, eclipse are no better inside then tiby, defenetly not better on outside.
RX8 does look more upscale made, but that is why it cost more...
hey, i have them both and i can compare... tiburon rear looks better, but rx8 has better front...

ok you are entitled to your opinion but I have a firend that had one of those tibbys and god was it awful. the interior trip where the radio was peeled off like it was a vinyl sticker, the paint on the car was horribly bad that he took paint of the car by just scraping it with his foot to get out, the exhaust manifold cracked (in a completly stock A/T model nontheless), this window motors broke like 4 times, and his tweeters were **** too.
idk but that to me is horribly CHEAP

But i am tired of my front bumper ... i thnks face lift (05-06) looks much better

I know the original Tibs were supposed to be terrible. But I owned the redesigned 03 Tib when they were first released (middle of 02). Ordered it before they even had one in the showroom yet. Aside from the sunroof motor dying (twice!) it was a very nice car. I thought the interior and paint quality was fantastic, granted I take good care of my vehicles. For 18k with full sport/GT wheels/leather/spoiler options package it was hard to beat. Only reason I got rid of it was because I decided i wanted a corvette
After 7 years even if things have only improved a little...I would buy one.

Saaame here.
I decided on the RX8 because there was absolutely nothing else on the market that I was interested in. (Well, that I could afford of course)
I haven't seen anything else that got me half-excited within my price-range until this Genesis Coupe came into the picture.
My father said they got their first 4cyl Turbo in today at the dealership, i'll likely go check it out in the afternoon and see what I think of it in person.
I'm actually quite undecided on how I feel about it though. I love the looks of it and the exhaust note is beautiful, but at the same time i'm half hoping a drive in one will turn me off from it so I can just remain happy with the RX8 lol.
As for Hyundai interior... It has come around a fair bit from their last gen vehicles... The new Santa Fe and Genesis Sedan have pretty damn nice interior IMO.

This car is such a 'step down' in the looks department from an RX8 (IMO). It's in the same league as an Eclipse for sure. I'm surprized that 8 owners find it attractive. The 8s lines are controversial to an extent but it's shapely like a woman and draws stares that no Hyundai thus far will draw. They're getting closer, but, no cigar yet.
To apply praise where praise is due; I went to visit a friend who runs a Hyundai dealer and wanted to see the GENESIS (Sedan). The interior was shocking in it's level of luxury. Mazda has NEVER made something in this leauge. Build quality seemed on par with the interior as well. They're on the rise for sure.
Here's my odd advice to them: It's time for an emblem change. That thing shouts "CHEAP IMITATION".

You contradicting your self .... genesis is in the same class and direct competition to Infinity G37
Some will like genesis exterior more some will like rx8 ... personal taste..cars are completley different.
TragicallyHip --- wait till they get r-spec or track models/ trims in - they have completley different suspension, sway bars, dampeners and brakes, r-spec is lighter .... those things probably will make big difference on handling compared to base, but you might wait a while.

IMO (As stated previously), the LOOKS are in the class with an Eclipse. Even the G37 falls short of an RX8 (IMO). There's no contradiction on my part; I haven't seen the Genesis coupe in person but the sedan is fantastic in it's interior.
I have criticized and praised where I thought appropriate. Just 'MY' opinion.

i actually confused the sedan with a luxury vehicle when it was in front of me. i glanced at it and thought BMW but then looked closer and couldn't figure out what it was. they had rebadged the back so until i saw that it said Genesis (which they had left), i had no idea i was behind a hyundai. and man, that things had some power when it took off from the stoplight.
i'm surprised that they decided to keep the hyundai badge in the front of the coupe since they didn't with the sedan. obviously the sedan grill wouldn't fit the coupe but they could have done a smaller version of it.
i'm still on the fence about this one until i see the coupe in person. and that's a long way for me b/c i always said i would never even sit in a hyundai if i could help it much less driving or <<gasp>> owning one.

It has yet to be determined if the quality or reliability will be up to Infiniti's standard.
No way the interior or overall ride quality and comfort will be in the same class as a G37.
I'm not ******* the Genesis coupe here but be realistic. There is way more to a car than performance numbers. Just because it has a decent amount of HP and it is a RWD coupe does not put it in direct competition with a G37.

Autoblog drives V6 Coupe

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/26/h...-few-first-im/
The first Genesis Coupe has landed in the driveway of Eager American Buyer Number One before Hyundai has even finished launching the car for the press, which is a slight reversal of things. In other words, the Korean automaker is actually ahead of schedule in launching its latest product. How refreshing.
Lucky for us, we managed to spend a few days in a Lime Rock Green Genesis Coupe before the press preview, and in that time we got some good first impressions of the car both on the street and at the track, in the rain and under the sun, on four wheels and two (just kidding, Hyundai).
We did our time in a 3.8-liter V6 with the track package. The car strikes a beautiful mix of pep and power from stoplight to stoplight, which is to say it will jump off the line but isn't frenetic while doing it. The shifter itself is oddly shaped, but the quality of the shifting is very good. The seats – except for the headrests – are supportive, comfy and pretty. The controls are also nicely placed and the stereo is a blast, but you'll need a minute to figure out all the buttons to operate it.
While on the track at Willow Springs, we were able to unchain the frenetic little devil that the Genesis Coupe keeps leashed around town. The steering wheel is the perfect size and provides plenty of feedback. The exhaust note, less than inspiring when you're nice to the car, finds its bellow when you stomp on the gas and let the revs climb. The brakes will keep up the good work for lap after lap after lap. The handling will even make a few other cars take note -– there's no "in it's price bracket" caveat here – and its rear-wheel-drive reflexes are nicely tuned. It is easy to get quick in the Genesis Coupe, and once there, it's pretty easy to stay quick.
Of course, there were a few details we wondered about: the headrests are canted so far forward, like they were designed for people with either long necks or little heads; the car needs a rear window wiper in the worst way – trying to see out the back in the rain is to understand glaucoma; and long journeys on L.A. freeways was a less than thrilling experience – you'll be glad to have that stereo. Nevertheless, it is a fine proposition, and if Hyundai can give the four-cylinder the same balanced handling, then that's a car that will make us all tingly.

Those engine options are the options for the luxury sedan, not the coupe. The coupe will have a choice between the V6 and a 200hp turbo 4

Due to my ignorance I thought I would ask, why are these both Genesis? In other words, are these the same platform/architecture? They bare no resemblance whereas the Infiniti G twins look quite similar to each other.

I see pics of their Ultra Luxury entry appearing on the blogs to try to muscle in on the approx $80-100K level as well.
You can say they'll never do all this that they're attempting, but no one can say they didn't give it a shot. Everyone starts somewhere with a dream and a plan. And they were among the few that has double-digit sales gains this last quarter. Sometimes it isn't the best that succeeds, but the one that tries the hardest with the right product at the right time.

I thought it was supposed to be. But I never did double check once this came out. ??
