2013 Genesis Coupe 345HP/295ft-lbs
3.8L @ 345 HP, 295 lb-ft of peak torque <<< surprisingly nice
2.0L Turbo @ 271 HP, 275 lb-ft <<<< excellent
0-100km 5.9sec (3.8L) 7.2 sec (2.0L T) <<< surprising in a different way
3.8L weight ~1,560kg <<<< ummmm not too bad

^ Worse... "every" (well perhaps not every) manufacturer is making (or about to introduce) a sports car with more powerful engines AND/OR lighter weight AND fresh new styling ----- EXCEPT Mazda. By the time they get around to having enough money and time to do one (if they actually ever do) I'm sorely afraid it will be a (yet another) case of too little, too late into the competitive fray.

As for Mazda, they seem content to use the MX-5 as their halo car and take it to the grave with them.

Those 0-60 times are off! both the current 3.8 and 2.0T are faster than those times.
I predict 5.2 for the 3.8 and 5.9-6 for the 2.0T.
Either way Hyundai is playing in the big leagues. You'll be seeing blown 2.0ts with well over 300hp soon.

...so the upcoming Subaru BRZ, the Toyota FT-86, and the Scion FRZ, new Hyundai Genesis 2.0T, and then the Fiat Abarth... and there is talk of the affordable Porsche roadster, and oh yes the Ford Focus RS, among others aren't vying for the sports car / hot hatch market?? Why are they being introduced? And that's not considering the US muscle car market, true low cost sports cars they may not be, but some can contest an M3 on the track if that counts for anything.
Seems like the affordable sports car market is just about to reach boiling point

0-100kph (0-62mph) times seem underrated.
I guess they're playing it safe, unlike Mazda who had to backpedal by overstating figures on more than one occasion.
The numbers look potent, but I can't get over the peeled foreskin styling trend (GT-R, Mitsus, and now this).

From the reviews I have read, the 2.0T accelerates slower than what the numbers would indicate. I think Hyundai is one of those car markers where your acceleration numbers are at or lower than you would expect. The Sonata isn't as quick as its various engines would indicate. Other makers like BMW and Porsche tend to underestimate v overestimate.

I wish Hyundai would just shorten that car up and get rid of the useless backseats. I test drove a 3.8 track and it was very nice but the car is just too big for my liking. Doesn't have the glove-like fit/feel the 8 does.

The Genesis Coupe is more of a "grand touring coupe" rather than an actual sports car.

I drove the 3.8 Autocrossing when I was helping out at the Novice school and appart from the auto gearbox which stayed in 3rd after changing up I thought the car was great. Handled very well, it was nice and predictable, quite similar to the Rx8 handling but I still preferred my Rx8.

Those 0-60 times are off IMO. Otherwise it just doesn't justify that kind of power to such "slow" times. (Slow as per the stated power output).
I too wouldn't classify this as a Sports Car, but I wouldn't mind test driving one... see what it rides like

They certainly are. Just saw my first Veloster today and honestly, from the tons of pics I've seen of it I thought that car was ugly as sin but that thing looks a million times better in person. Might actually go test drive one this weekend.

I definitely agree with your comment on the veloster. It looks MUCH better in person.
