Morning guys.
Xero, it's in NBC sports.
This is the first time in a LONG TIME I've gotten up and the Mazda's are still in it!!
Turns out the #10 got another penalty over night which dropped them down a lap but they've since recovered.
Mustang Sampling Cadillac in the lead
#77 in 2nd
#10 is back in 3rd
#55 is struggling a little, reports of an exhaust leak.

The consistency is incredible with only a few hours remaining. I’m use to waking up to the heartaches of both (Mazda) cars in poor or non-running shape.

i'm european ( not so deep into IMSA stuff ) ,but from what i see into timing the car is fast in a single lap, but lacks something in pace.

oh man, they're still running!
Mazdas in 2nd and 3rd right now due to pit lane shuffling. There's a nice gap between 4th and 5th so I'm not gonna jinx it and say anything about a podium.

Mps, you're right. They're fast but their pace overall is still off that of the Cadillac.
Wonder if this is strategy? A Mada DPi has never finished this race, wonder if they're backing off to make a run the last hour?

Kobayashi is a madman. He's all over the place (which is good for us should be go off track) but NO WAY Wayne Taylor let's him stay in there to close this out.
We need a yellow to bunch the field back up to get back in this

I think the #55 is running out of steam.
It's last lap was a 1:47.5, and it can't seem to pass a lower level car that's in front of it.
Good to see the #77 still fighting the good fight.
BC.

I'm hoping that they are saving the #55 to break down in the middle of the bus stop with 6 minutes to go in the race, so that the track can go full yellow, and #77 can take the #10 on the restart for the last lap.
The guys on NBC broadcast just said that the #55 is still out there to get points for the overall championship. I like my theory better.
#55 reminds me of the time they had the spark plugs fail last year.

BC, I like your plan better.
3 minutes to go and the #77 securely in 2nd place. I know the goal is always to WIN but damn this is a great finish for Mazda and will send a message to the rest of the field that Mazda is here to compete, has a fast car AND its reliable.
Hell of a start to the season.

Good as a win for me! First finish since 2012!
Good job, Multimatic and AER! It's finally as reliable as a rotary.
Someone correct me, but I think this is the highest finish for a Mazda at Daytona since 1983 when a 13B RX-7 GTO car got 3rd overall.

Congrats to Mazda for finally defeating the big race gremlins (reliability and crash luck), and having both race cars finish the race, one of them in 2nd place.
Best Daytona for Mazda in a LONG LONG time.

Mazdas were a factor throughout, notching a best-ever Rolex 24 result
story by Racer.com
The fast-qualifying pair of DPi Mazda RT24-Ps battled start to finish in this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, and notched the Japanese manufacturer’s best-ever finish in the tough round-the-clock event.
The No. 77, driven by Oliver Jarvis, Tristan Nunez and Olivier Pla, wound up second, completing 833 laps and finishing just over a minute behind the winning Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac.
Jarvis qualified the re-liveried white machine on the pole, and, from the drop of the green flag, the No. 77 was a factor for the victory, leading 190 laps of the race.
Forced to serve a stop-and-go penalty just before the halfway point, the team’s three drivers battled back into contention, holding down second throughout the final hours of the race, with Jarvis taking the checkered flag just 1m5s behind the No. 10 Cadillac.
This result improves on Mazda’s previous best overall finish in the Rolex 24 which was a fifth place in 1989 with a Mazda 767B.
“We missed out on the victory by just a little bit, but when you consider how much progress we’ve made in two seasons, this feels like a victory,” said Jarvis. “And I have to say, the car was really good at the end of the race.”
Teammate Pla was similarly pleased: “Finishing the 24 Hours of Daytona and being on the podium is an amazing result for Mazda Team Joest. Thanks to the crew, to everyone at Multimatic, and to my teammates Olly and Tristan. We had a very fast Mazda RT24-P, pushed hard the whole race, and battled for the lead from the start all the way to the end.”
The No. 55 RT24-P, meanwhile, driven by Jonathan Bomarito, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Harry Tincknell, overcame an incident-filled race to finish sixth overall, 10 laps behind the winner and sister car. Its drivers had to battle back from a Tincknell collision with Helio Castroneves’ Acura in the early going, slowed by damaged bodywork as well as a penalty; but they, too, remained in contention for the victory until being slowed with unspecificed mechanical problems in the final hours.
“We weren’t able to show the true potential of the No. 55 at the end of the race, which is unfortunate,” said Hunter-Reay. “Overnight, the car was really hooked up — the best car I’ve ever driven at Daytona. On the positive side, both Mazdas completed the 24 hours and the No. 77 car finished a strong second place, which is great for the program and for the championship. We will keep working and come back stronger at Sebring.”
“It’s a great day for our program to finish on the podium at Daytona and to bring both cars to the checkered flag,” said Nelson Cosgrove, Mazda Motorsports’ new director. “One of our goals for this season is to win one of the endurance races, and this result shows that the work the team put in during the off season has paid off. No one team in the field had a perfect day, but our guys had to be patient and battle back from the adversity they faced throughout the race. It’s a great result for Mazda and one that every person on the team should be proud of.

1st post updated with race results and for this season I started tracking the standings by points. I'm currenlty only showing the top 5 and I'll try and update that after each race.
Just thought it would kind of fun to follow that number along as the season progresses, especially if Mazda keeps this up. **knocks on wood**

I have my money on restrictions for Mazda and Cadillac. IMSA can't leave Acura hanging without a heavy chance for come back after Daytona, right?
