I'd be wary of buying a 13 year old Mitusbishi with 160k miles on it. I always loved the look of that car but wasn't really impressed driving it, feels very heavy.

The 3000GT was the first car I've ever wanted, even though it is a brick on wheels. The VR-4 has a lot of stuff packed into it, therefore a lot of stuff that could be wrong with it by now like the active-aero system, all-wheel steering, and not to mention the twin-turbo. I'd ask more specific questions regarding what to look out for on a different forum, like maybe www.3si.org

yeah...what's the point of it though? i mean, if it's a "collector" car for you that you don't mind not driving very often, and maybe putting a lot of time/effort into it, then sure. if it's a daily driver, definitely not. i like the idea...i'd want a 2nd or 3rd gen rx7 as an extra car, but knowing that to me it'd be more of a collector car, not something i'd plan on using very often.

edit: i dont know much about that car. i know the vr4 is pretty coveted, but as far as qaulity, maintenance, etc., i'd take masked's advice and search around their forum to learn more about it and what you should look for or watch out for. (i.e., our advice to "outsiders" when buying a used rx8 is to make sure you get a compression test, and check coils, etc...owners of vr4's may be able to give you more insight like that)

That kind of car is so tightly packed that it is a mess working on it. The electrical nightmares that you can get are even worse than the vacuum tube labyrinth of the old fd3s.
It's heavy and handles only so and so, the engine is ok but is not bullet proof. At 160.000km it may very well be a tickling bomb.
Find one with around 100.000miles and a good service history if you really must buy one.

I'd be scared to buy any car with that many miles, but like others have said, if it's not going to be a daily driver and you would be okay putting some money into it then by all means...

stay away from 3000GT

like the others said, it has tons of electrical issues, brake hose recall(if I remember correctly), and lots of issue with the drivetrain. it got so many people pissed and gave Mitsubishi a really bad PR.

160K miles is not a problem, hell I got my FC with 211K miles, if you're dedicated to that car then why not? but prepare to spend big bucks just to fix it.

The VR4 was my favorite car throughout the 90s. I actually put a down payment on a 99 maroon VR4 with 89,000 miles then I test drove the 8 and said i gotta have this. There was a list of people waiting for my deal to fall through on the VR4 so there was no problem getting my money back. I actually thought I didn't get it until someone else deal fell through.

The 3000GT would be a perfect car for Mitsubishi to bring back as a halo car to compete with GT-R, Corvette, G37 coupe, M3, Shelby, etc. maybe as an electric/hybrid.
