IS or 335
so my friend is buying a new car ... sold his s4 and was looking for something new with a similar class after debating the 2 he couldnt come to a decision ... lexus is or bmw 335 ... his commute is about 90 miles a day 5 days a week for school ... i said 335 with the warranty is his best bet everyone else he knows says is250 so just wanna see what people on here would pick ... both are about the same price with the same milage the 335 is a little more loaded than the is ... let me hear your opinions

Very different cars. The is250 is more luxurious and a bit more insulated from the feel of the road (my wife has one; dare I say woman's car?). The 335 is a typical [relatively] no frills bimmer driver's machine. The is250 is very nice, but imho the 335 would be a better transition from an S4.

The fact that it's a 250 just makes this pointless. Tell him that a better comparison would be a 328 or something like that. I've driven my friends 250. It's slow and the handling is not bad but the feel always makes me uncertain of what it can actually do. The IS is more luxurious, but not enough to make it worthwhile to compare to the 335i in my opinion. I've driven both cars and if you care at all about performance, there should be absolutely no question. If your friend is wanting to move from performance and focus on luxury then the IS is a good choice. Otherwise, there is absolutely no doubt which car to choose.
Has he driven both cars? It should be fairly obvious to him which he wants. Dont let friends be the deciding factor, he should decide which he will truly enjoy and not regret.
Edit: Forgot to mention this... people call the 8 slow. The IS250 does not even come close to being as fast as the 8. Me and my friend tested this a few years back (on a track obviously) and it's not even a fair comparison. The 335i is undoubtedly faster than the 8 in acceleration.

he definitely wants the 335 DEFINITELY but for some dam reason people have got him confused with the reliability causing second thoughts and i know for a fact the 335 is just as reliable as the IS ...

If you're seriously looking for performance, then don't choose the IS250 as the competing car. If he wants to go with something more reliable, he should at least pick something that is still performance oriented.
If he goes with the IS250 because of reliability concerns he might as well be saying "I was going to go with a Z06, but I was concerned about reliability so I went with this civic instead".

^ we think alike bro thats what i said exactly ... also 9k bmw has free maintainence but hes more concerned that the bmw would need to be in the shop and he would not have a car for a day or so ... and that happening often is a concern BUT hes talking a 335 not a range rover! and i know for a fact he will regret the IS because i know how he drives and he will never get used to the way the is handles

the 335i has high pressure fuel pump issues. they fail more often than they should. BMW will fix it for 120k miles but they still have not released a solution to solve that problem..
that said, i'd still buy the 335i every day of the week. in fact, i already bought one... just waiting until march for performance center delivery.
those saying that it's not an appropriate comparison are correct. the 335i is a luxury performance car. the 250 is a luxury commuter car.

eh. drove 2 xDrives over the last week (my dad's 528 and my grandmother's 335i), and it's really not necessary unless you have a chance for snow and even then, good winter tires are a better expenditure. they live up in chicago so it works out better for them.
it's a good awd system at the expense of a little weight.

Is your friend kidding? 335 and no debate! The bimmer is the venerable benchmark that that Lexus, Infiniti and others compare themselves too, and they still mostly miss the mark. The 335 is power and grace, baby. Reliability? Equal to the Lexus. Driver enjoyment and satisfaction...surpasses the Lexus. I thought about getting an IS 350 before I purchase my RX8. Test drove one and it was too "soft" and disconnected from the driver. It cuddled me too freakn' much. I didn't want a cuddily car. Working on getting a 335 diesel to join my RX8 in the near future. 335 dude!
