350Z 'Recalls' and Faults...not a rotary!

I can't claim to be familiar with every make and model of car that is produced, as some of you seem to be, but I liked the intention of this thread for what its worth.
Yeah, people on this forum are going to be biased (myself included), but I think we all know that.
I don't dislike the Z, I think its just reassuring to see that other (commonly compared) cars also have issues (regardless of how many/often), and I think that was his intent, not to say that the RX-8 is superior to the Z because the Z has had tranny issues.
Also, so many have commented on "that only happened in early production years 03-05," I NEVER hear anyone defending RX-8 issues with this same logic, i.e. "power loss issues only happened on the early production years 04-06"
just my 8 cents.

as for the thread discussion. i have also seen first-hand problems with the 350z. a friend of mine had severe and quick disintegration of his tires, and has had his car in for transmission issues (2003).
i dont think the thread starter should be scolded for pointing out problems of other cars on the grounds of being a "fan boi". ihow could an rx-8 forum exist without fan boi's ie. die hard enthusiasts?
opinions and biases affect argumentative statements all the time. this isnt the first time its happened, and last i checked, its still legal to post even the most biased opinions on the internet. this is the ******* internet. it seems logical to compare the perceived problems (whether you believe they exist or not) of 2 cars that seem to be compared so often on other aspects.

Saying the 350Z feels like a bathtub is an opinion. Saying that it's common for a 350Z to have issues with their transmissions is misleading at best. One is an opinion and the other is false information.
People get mad when others give their opinions of the 8 and Mazda in general when those opinions aren't favorable and then counter that by posting information that is not grounded in fact. I know this is an RX-8 forum so people are going to be biases towards it in general, but we still need some rational discussion when discussing other cars. I don't believe the first post here was and hence my problem with it.

If 70 posted on the forum, this means at least 10x that number can't post because of crippling injuries sustained from the Z (likely from the harsh suspension and or tire feathering issue).
And at least 10x that number aren't posting because they don't even know about the internets.

EDIT..Actually make that 46 pages...so I would suggest that 70 is a conservative
number..

Transmissions...
I would say that my quote of 70 tranny replacements is plainly wrong, its possibly double that...yes there were and are issues with the 03/04 Z's but, there are owners who are having problems with 05 also (3rd gear), and some on their 3rd complete transmission.
The thread is question is 46 pages long....

I took delivery of a 06 in March (It's actually my wife's car) at about 2K miles I added one quart of oil. I thought they haden't filled it when I bought it. At 5K I brought it in for the first service and it was down another 2 quarts of oil. The dealer filled it and asked me to bring it back with another 1,000 miles on it. I did that today and it was over a quart low. The dealer is now calling Nissan Tech to see what the next move is. I know it isn't leaking it. I park every night in my garage and there is never any oil on the floor. Has anyone else had this problem, and what has Nissan done to fix it??

Check the threads, you'll see several posted about the same issue.
I'm going through the oil consumption checks on my '06.
Taking it in today for my 3rd visit. It's down more than 1 quart in 850 miles.
.................................................. .................................................. ............................
got my 06 in July.. two months and 2000 miles later and I'm down two quarts. My test will start Friday. Good luck and keep us updated
.................................................. .................................................. ............................
I also have an 06'. I was down 1 qt. every 1k miles. I only have 5k miles on my car after a 1000 mile test. They had just installed a new short block for me. Currently testing it out.
.................................................. .................................................. .............................
I started my oil consumption test about a week ago with my 06 enth. I have just over 9k on the car but it's been losing oil for a while. Good luck and search the other threads regarding this topic, there's some useful info esp. regarding how to deal with your service manager etc.. if you run into resistance.
.................................................. .................................................. .............................
I too have lost some oil,about 3/4 of a quart so far . I also drive an 06' with about 2400 m
.................................................. .................................................. ...............................
Its quite horrible to hear some member not even passing 4k RPM and still lose more than a quart per 1000 miles
.................................................. .................................................. ...............................
Man, I thought it was strange that I lost a court of oil in 2000 miles.I have a 2006 and I am new to the Z so just assumed it was normal. I have about 9500, and do not baby the car. So this may be normal. What do you think?
.................................................. .................................................. ..............................
I have an 03 and had no problems until just recently.
oil light came on so I stopped at an auto parts store and got quart of oil. put it in and it didn't even register! added another quart and it barley showed on the dipstick. Took it in and now I am doing the oil consumption test.
the problem now is, if they change my engine will I get one of those wonderful 06 engines that burn more than mine?
BTW - I just crossed 21K and its now 4 years old!
.................................................. .................................................. ..............................
I was just in for my 3rd visit for oil consumption. Down more than a quart in 900 miles. My car only has 3k miles on it. It's really upsetting to have this problem on a brand new car.
Dealer finally called Nissan tech line who knows that it's a problem, sounds like they know there are lots of the '06 Z's with this problem. Still waiting to hear back from Nissan on a resolution. It's been a month now...not happy with how long it's taking to resolve something that's a known problem.

These are some of the Z owners with oil consumption concerns...there are many owners who have new engines on back order..
I have nothing against Z owners their cars or Nissan..to their credit like MAzda they are giving extended warranties. Nissan on their tranny's
Just to repeat, a mate of mine who had a Z told me of these issues, I was surprised and I thought it would have been of interest to some RX-8 club members.
I am NOT trying to have a blew/fight/dish with ANY 350Z owner...period.

wow the rx8 engine recall thread has 130+ pages, theres got to be 200+ bad engines as a conservative estimate! some are on their 3rd engine!...
great logic there...
no offense, but every car has problems. 350Z is pretty high volume selling car. you can goto the toyota camry forum or honda accord forum and see the same thing. Thank you for point out that 350Z has problems just like every other car! You attacking people and calling them names is quite lame though.
whatever let you sleep at night?

Thanks for this thread. Unlike some, I understand your not trolling for a fight. This is interesting info as I think it should help some put the problems they are having with the 8 into perspective; understanding that all cars are mechanical devices and prone to failure, no matter if piston/rotary powered or Mazda/Nissan built. Too many here get pissy about things and just end up with urine everywhere.

i agree this is a good and interesting thread as far as the information goes. all cars have problems, and nissan and mazda are both right next to each other and both below industrial average in the last JD power long term reliablitity surveys. both needs to do a much better job of quality control.

I, for one, like this thread.
on a less serious note, the only 350Z owner that I have a personal connection with recently cracked two rims and blew two tires. granted, he has an ugly habit of playing with his car while he is drunk (thus I've never riden with him and have yet to be inside a Z), I'm sure its the car's fault.

Just because I did not paste a link?
Go ahead and start a thread " "RX-8's get bad gas mileage and burns oil nonstop"
if you want to...and I would probably reply and say..its "Normal"...like all rotaries.
It is not normal for a piston engine(350Z) to use similar amounts of engine oil at 9000 miles.

We just differ on what we deem acceptable behavior on the forum. I think I'm being realistic and you think I'm negative. I think you're ragging on a car without presenting the whole story (i.e. - many of these issues have been resolved in later models similar to the flooding issues that have been resolved with the RX-8) and you think you're being informative and fair. Whoopdedoo we disagree -- and the world continues on.
In the end, I shouldn't have said anything because Ike's first post was right on the money: "You calling those things common and the norm is like saying it's the norm to have to have your engine replaced, tranny replaced, and to get 12mpg in the RX-8".
