Just thought I would drop in on you guys over here, I'm from G35driver.com and MY350z.com. Just to clear the air on this issue it is NOT, I repeat, NOT possible to get over 300whp without cams in a G35/350Z, and even at that you'll be lucky to hit 300. It would be alot easier with internal upgrades. I've done almost everything to my g35 (check out my mods at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2154406) and with a UTEC and a tune I'm hoping to touch 280whp. The fact is staying NA in this car makes sense for a daily driver. I know a few people with boosted Z's that are always in getting tuned, days and weeks at a time. OK for a weekend warrior but not everyday driver. You can still drop $7000 on all the NA mods and not touch the horsepower an ST adds for the same cost. Period. Peace, and I really like the RX8, just not fast enough for me

The best bang for the buck cheap mod is the motordyne MREV, which is a plenum spacer+lower plenum combo for +18whp and +25wtorque for $460 bucks.

APS single turbo and twin turbo are the way to go for the Z and G35 right now for the best hp on stock internals. the APS tt gets up to around 470whp on 93 octane while providing low end torque thats not possible on the super chargers. They are extremely expensive though, about 10,000-12,000 bucks for the parts, install, and tune. Theres Z and Gs running higher whp than that, but they no longer have stock block and rods.

the new 300hp engine for 2005-06 G35 6mt and 2006 6mt Zs has upgraded internals, so they are supposed to be able to handle more boost than the old motor.

yeah i forgot about Cams, youre right, its definetly tough to get over 300+whp NA without having to spend mad dough. Some guys are runing mid 12 seconds after sending about 5-6k going NA. good luck with your tune nate! whats your name on g35driver.com?

FI can get mad power as demostrated by the APS system, but cost so much money its not very realisticlly affordable.

Nice care, love the looks of the G35 over the Z.

My name is the same on all three forums (my350z, g35driver, and here) I'd love to get some cams but I just don't see the point of spending $2500 for 20whp. I'll HOPEFULLY get to 280 and be happy.

So what did your car push to the wheels stock, and where is it at now?

$2500 for cams is pretty outrageous. I assume that is also with different valves and springs?

I agree. A custom grind shouldn't even run that.

A set of 4 nismo cams will run you $1200 or so. And it's about $1000 to $1300 to put them in. Trust me I've looked into it. And that is without new springs, the Nismos are not aggressive enough for new springs. If you went with the Tomei 268's you would need new springs.

I wonder if a 20B would fit in a 350Z.

If it could fit in the 8, it could fit in the Z. Think about the size of both of the stock engines, 1.3l vs 3.5l.

If I had that kind of money to burn, I think I would just drop in a LS2/T56 from a wrecked GTO. I bet it would probably weigh less and give the car a lower center of gravity too.

I remember when I first bought my Z, a guy called it a "Japanese Camaro" on another forum. To make my point, I asked the question, "Is the BMW M3 a Bavarian Camaro"? Okay, no, it's not as badass as a M3, but the point is valid. I think everyone knows that the RX8, M3 and 350z all ran the same time on Top Gear's test track.

Good power. Good chassis and suspension, but a little too heavy. The Z is the jack of all trades, but master of none.

Back on topic - I frequent my350z.com. I've read about lots of these guys with turbos and superchargers. I rarely see a thread in which someone has complained about FI hurting their engine. The VQ35 has tons of notoriety in the automotive world. http://wardsauto.com/reports/2006/tenbest/ . Sorry to see the Mazda 2.3 I4 on the list and not the Renesis. No, that's not a dig on the Renesis. I really wish it was on the list.

And I think that anyone with half a brain knows that's pretty meaningless.

Yeah, clearly the 8 would have won with a better driver.

Clearly. It's a pretty twisty track, 1:25's are well within reach.

Yeah, I agree, it's the tires and the driver. If the 8 came with r compounds stock. It would of smoked those heavy bulldozers.

A professional driver taking a production car to its limit on a test track to determine a measureable result ... is meaningless for teh win!

Another internet "intellectual" cynic. You can't have too many of those.

If this test/comparison (and others like it that are produced by your choice of automotive media) is meaningless, what is meaningful when it comes to comparing two or more cars?

What you have with top gear is different cars on different tires on different days in different weather and different track conditions driven quite possibly by different drivers for an undocumented amount of laps. Yeah, that sounds like a real solid comparison.

Here are a couple videos of this car. Sounds pretty mean. The dyno video description says "550hp @ wheels
14psi 8000rpm limit !!!!!!"

I thought about the different track and weather conditions after I posted, so good point. However, I wasn't aware that Top Gear used anything aside from OEM tires.
