Really a shame that my 2 dream cars have some major issues they need to work out!

Slowly i will figure this car thing out!
The G35 coupe has the same grease on the windows problem. I traded mine in for an 8 recently. I really enjoyed the G35 while I had it, but it had its own share of drawbacks. The blindspots are huge. (The 8's are bad too but not quite as big) The drivers seat started rocking.(minor but annoying) The paint chips really easy. The is no head room in the back. (The 8 is much better in the back) And good luck finding a manual G35C for under 40k or wait times less than 5 months. 99% of the 6mt's listed on the infiniti web site are already sold.

Thanks guys
this is complete and utter BS. 6000 miles, I have never flooded it, ever. I move my car completely cold out of the driveway to wash it. Then I pull it back. Never floods, ever. I constantly start and stop it. Never floods. EVER.

If you drive the car like a granny you get good gas mileage, if you hit it hard you get less than average (17 mpg). I would not call that terrible.

All cars flood, hell my friends V6 mustang flooded last month and he had the damn thing towed to a shop.

There are more threads on the 350Z forum about replaced transmissions than there are about gas mileage on this forum. You can start here:

http://my350z.com/forum/search.php?s...g&pagenumber=1

Just browsing some of the threads I have found that some of the people are on the 2nd and 3rd transmission.

It is no BS, it happens. Some more than others however some never had the problem, but most do.

Your friend should have pulled the spark plugs and unplug the fuse to the fuel pump. Cold crank it a couple times it should unload it. Also to make sure to get new plugs since the flooded ones are fouled.

I'm saying its BS because he said it as a fact, that if you start the car and stop it without warming up you WILL flood. Thats BS, if you want to come over to my house for some cookies and milk I will show you.

Again, i'm not saying that it hasn't happened with some cars, but its no more or less a problem than any other car.

One of the problem with the rotary and flooding is that unlike piston engines - it will not clear by itself by just sitting. De-flooding these two different engines must be done differently. In the past - the rotary engine had to be deflooded by pulling the pump fuse or pulling the plugs - sometimes even ATF was put in the engine to help. The RX-8 has a procedure to shut off the pump by flooring the gas when cranking - a simpler solution.

Still think Mazda has a way to fully address flooding - but with time.....

Just remember other cars don't have deflooding procedures in their manuals, what does that tell you.

I dont recall the owners manual having the word "FLooding" in it. I think they called it "emergency starting procedure".

I got lotsa cookies at home, let me know.

To address some of the concerns regarding the G/Z:

1) Window grease: TSB for that has been out for 10 months. I took mine in during the 2nd oil change, fixed with no charge.

2) Understeer: If you autoX the car, it will understeer because of the stagger tires and weight. Change out the front tires to 235 and remove the front brace on the Z will make the car handle more neutral. One thing for sure, the G35C is not as nimble as the RX-8 on slaloms, but the lower end torque makes up for it coming out of corners. (just speaking from my AutoX experience) I am sure I am rubbing off a lot more brake pad and front tires than the RX-8's though. Then again, if you go into road racing.... power and mid-high speed grip becomes more valuable, and the G/Z will beat the RX-8.

3) Price: G35C manuals are still going for MSRP or maybe $1000 discount. The 350Z are discounted around $2-3k now. A 6MT RX-8 can be had for under $24k these days with CD changer, so there is definitely a price advantage.

4) Lack of headroom in the G35C: While the front seats are very generously portioned, the read headroom is pitiful in the G35C. I guess that's the price you pay for classic coupe profile. :p Who needs tall friends anyways. LOL

5) Gas milage: I don't know about the 350Z folks, I get around 18mpg in 'normal' city driving and well over 26mpg on highways. Consider the large displacement V6 and the power, it's not too bad IMO.

6) Aftermarket: The 350Z definitely has the most mods here, G35C owners can share around 80% of the Z mods. (short of the ECU, drive shaft and exhaust length) RX-8 has some promising mods coming out, but reliability may be an issue with FI rotaries. Not to say the Nissan VQ is doing much better, the Procharger has been blowing up some engines lately.

Thanks Skyline.

With my 10 hours of reading the 350z sites, looks like thats the way i'm going. Can't even really compare the 2 cars anyways.
Depends if you want a pure sports car or a sporty car.

Both amazing though! what a decision.

Negs

The 8 has been prone to flooding? Never seen it, guess I'm just lucky. Hey Dustin, don't forget that "mouth-piece" to save your teeth and tongue when driving home from the dealer, to say the Z has a firm ride is kind and that was in stock form.
