8 vs. s2000

8 vs. s2000
Anyone switch from an s2000 to an RX-8 (or vice versa)? Looking to buy and its down to these two. I know they are not quite in the same class, but I would be interested to know how people think they compare. Felt comfortable and had fun test-driving both, but can't make up my mind.

It is a very tough decision. Before I bought my 8 i also test drove the S2000. Being the big guy that i am, the 8 seemed a little more comfortable to me. I also took a look at the performance stats and the price. The performance on the Honda is a little better, but not all that noticeable. The 8 also base lines at around 6000 dollars less than the Honda. Zoom-Zoom

As for the other comments, sorry if this topic bores you. Maybe you'd like to talk some more about all the mods you've done to your rx-8 to screw up its looks and produce a car that looks like it belongs to a 16 year old with an afterschool job at McDs. That never gets old. . .

The second person that ever owned an RX-8 on this forum switched from an S2000 (in Japan, 4 months before the RX-8 came out in the USA). Check out JSGs posts on this matter. Here is one of his many threads comparing the two cars.

Buy them both. They both have they're own little quirks that makes them fun as hell to drive. However, I chose the 8 over the S2K because it's more practical.

So, back to you - what's wrong with using the search to read what has already been posted on this exact topic? People are simply suggesting (more or less helpfully ) that YOU would benefit from a bit of homework here. If you have any questions that haven't been covered, then by all means ask away (and you won't get the snide responses then, either).
Regards,
Gordon

You know what? Screw all you guys who are so unhelpful. People on this forum are so holier than thou. I don't care if the thread has been run before; I wasn't here or involved in those threads. Maybe it's an important enough question that people want to rehash it and weigh in again. After all, the RX-8 is still a very new and largely unproven car, so ongoing discussion is important.
And if you don't want to talk about it, than just skip reading it or don't participate. It's not like I posted it on the main discussion section, or am forcing anyone to read the thread.
And by the way, I did search and read the previous threads before posting. They were helpful, as I had hoped this one would be. Oh well. . .

you know you guys really arent promoting this wonderful car too well... Im sure like many other people here, I not only look at the car itself but to an extent I look at the support group that goes with it. For instance, I am debating the same thing as the guy who started this thread and let me tell you... The s2ki guys are a WHOLE LOT more helpful than some of you guys. I understand these posts get repetitive, but they need to keep being brought up because of the 8 or so times this has been brought up, it always ends after 20 or so replies of "use the search button noob" or "learn to read" or some other rude reply. Its tough to find useful information on this section of this forum. So instead of just saying use the search button, why not link to a thread that can help him if you are too lazy to post what you know on the subject... Thats a lot better than the lazy way (ie. search)

oh and I almost forgot to reply to this thread...
The st00k is a great car and a lot of fun to drive. So is the 8. One of the biggest things the honda has going for it is the VTEC feel and the convertible top. Everything is top notch in that car. The RX-8 has its better sides too. It has a much nicer interior by my personal standards. It is a nice compromise, looks good with the appearance package, and it has a BACK SEAT!!!
check out the s2ki forum if you need to see the other side of the argument.

Wakeech, so is your post. How much bandwidth do you suppse your graphics (which you took from Pidge) occupy? Canadian prices- RX8 6mt -$36795, s2K $49000. no way the s2k is worth $13000 morre than RX8.

I drove the s2000 its nice but I like the 8 more. Also the shifter is so dam high IM not used to it with the 8 its so low and smooth, maybe its just me but I like the 8 so much better than a s2000. Also for 35,000 you get a fully loaded rx8 with heated seats, navi, leather and a whole bunch more that the s2000 owners cant get.
I still love the s2000 if i can get two cars i would get a s2000. also i don't like the new one i like 2001- 2003 not the 2004s

Thanks to those who are providing helpful input. Wakeech, I bet the girls love that cool cape, rotor man. . .
Seenitall, why is the s2k so much more expensive in Canada than the rx-8? I assume that is comparison between base rx-8 and s2k. Here in states I am looking at neighborhood of 34,000 for either (fully loaded RX-8 with gt package).
I test drove both again this afternoon, and I have to say the interior of the 8 really is nicer, better stereo and back seat. But from a performance standpoint, acceleration and torque on the 8 just doesn't come anywhere near the s2k. I am afraid the 8 really is a "practical" sportscar in every sense of the word. I also couldn't believe it: they sent me out on a test

Radmd:Canadaian Rx8 $36795
S2k $49000
350z $45400 cdn.
Dont know except that car prices dont rflfect how much the car costs to build but what the manufacturer thinks he can get away with charging..
Our base car has the good motor, 18 inch wheels, 6 CD chander, Bose and a few other goodies.
