Acura RDX/ Mazda CX-7 comparison
http://washingtontimes.com/autoweeke...4657-9333r.htm
this Washington Times article starts out as agood comparo between the two
In defining its competition, Acura cites only one vehicle -- the BMW X3 -- and, perhaps, the Infiniti FX35. But the vehicle most similar to it is the new Mazda CX-7, which is almost a fraternal twin despite the different parentage.
Consider: The Acura is powered by a 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine of 240 horsepower, with a five-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It is 15 feet 1 inch long, has passenger space of 101 cubic feet and cargo space of 28 cubic feet behind the rear seat. Weight is 3,935 pounds and the EPA city/highway fuel economy rating is 19/24 miles per gallon. It runs on premium fuel.
The Mazda has a 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 244 horsepower, a six-speed automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive. It is 15 feet 4 inches long, has passenger space of 99 cubic feet and cargo space of 30 cubic feet behind the rear seat. Weight is 3,929 pounds and the EPA city/highway fuel economy rating is 18/24. Premium fuel is required. It doesn't get much closer than that. But Acura officials insist that their buyers would never consider a Mazda, although a Mazda buyer might look to step up to an RDX.
A loaded all-wheel-drive Mazda CX-7 has a sticker price of about $32,500. The Acura starts at $33,610, which also is for a well-equipped vehicle. An optional technology package bumps the sticker to $37,110. It includes a navigation system with voice recognition, a rear-view camera and a 10-speaker premium audio system designed by famed recording engineer Elliot Scheiner.
but then just sort of trails off midway thru the RDX stuff with no more about the CX-7. it seems like they didnt upload the whole thing. give it read tho maybe they'll fix it

I Look At The Rdx And Cx-7 Today For My Wife, I Like The Cx-7. It Looks Diferent From All The Others Suv And It Has Almost All The Things That The Rdx Has To Offer And I Cheper. As Far As What Am Looking At The Only Thing I Found, Diferrent Acuralink Reartime Nav And The Way Acura Build Its Turbo, Two Stage Aire Flow, It Looks Like Its Going To Be A Very Nice Turbo, I Can Only Hope Mazda Build Some Thing Like This In The Near Future

I spoke briefly with the regional sales rep about the CX-7 a couple months ago before
it hit the dealerships. It's a gorgeous car inside and out. She said they designed the
interior after the RX-8 and it shows. She also said they designed the seating and driving
position to be just like the RX-8 also. ZOOM ZOOM!
The dark purple color combo with the creme leather interior is excellent.

Yikes! The RDX R UGLY!
I'd gladly take a "step down" (According to the all-knowing Acura marketing folks) and drive a similarly equipped CX7 just so I don't have to be seen in such a nasty looking vehicle.

Acura is out of control. We went to see about a brochure a few weeks ago and the sales guy was an ***. He started bashing Mazda saying how good Acura was, blah blah. He insisted it was in direct competition with BMW and not Mazda. I'm thinking, gee when this car was first shown in concept form it did not have a turbo-4 in it. It was supposed to have a 6 cylinder to compete with the Toyota Rav. Then miraculously after Mazda released its CX7 we see the RDX with a turbo-4.
It was then that I pointed out a couple of useful tips to him:
1. Hey dumbass...do you see what I drove up in? Why yes, that is 1 of 2 Mazda's I own: RX8 and the B4000 truck is at home. How about taking a peek at what people drive before you insult another manufacturer. And btw, unless you have an NSX on your lot, that shitty Mazda will run circles around anything you have.
2. My Wife's current car, Acura TL Type S, is on its 3rd transmission. It has had motor mounts replaced, a host of other crap and it has 70K miles on it.
So, yesterday my Wife calls another dealer to see if they ever got any RDX in. They told her she would need to make an appointment to come see / drive one! She laughed and reminded them they sold Hondas.

i had that first impression when saw it on the magazine but this thing looks darn sharp in person. test drove one today, its handling is pretty impressive and cornering ability and speed are very much rx8-liked. i was in favor of cx-7 before but now my mind changed. one thing..its interior looks way more upscale than cx-7 which looks plasticky in my opinion, but again it falls short on price against cx-7. just my .2 cent
I liked our CR-V's. The most maintenance free vehicles I have ever owned. They are also extremely versitile. I like the RD-X and CX-7, as well, sat in both at the NY auto show and they are both nice. For me, I guess it would come down to reliability and actual gas mileage. I think the CX-7 looks a little more unique, but I always thought to this point that the CX-7 was supposed to be the better bargain, but it looks like they are very similiarly priced. To me, that makes it a tougher call. Acura does have better brand image (not BMW or Lexus better, but better). I don't know, it's a tough call.

The CRV drives like a Jeep. It leans and bucks not at all fitting for a Honda, and I think they intentionally designed it to drive like a Jeep. Great vehicle if you want the feeling of driving off-road as you cruise down the freeway.
The Pacifica was the biggest disappointment I've tested. Sharp styling just don't expect it to perform like it looks. Handling is OK a bit bumpy, the FWD model badly needs traction control when pulling away on a left turn, and despite all the bulk of 4400 lbs, it's very noisey inside. The backseat DVD player needs headsets or else you won't hear the audio at 65 MPH. Did I mention real world gas mileage? Don't ask, just buy a Chevy cConversion van with a raised roof you'll go farther on a gallon of gas.
The Murano is pretty cool with the CVT and Nissan's excellent 3.5 motor. Suspension is just a tad too soft, mostly needs bigger anti-roll bars. Much bigger.
The Dodge Magnum is pretty sweet despite being a wagon it sits low enough that it drives really nice. Still a gas hog but the 3.5 with the 5 speed auto (new this year) seems to step it up - it's about on par with the CX7 - but it's not as fast nor does it feel as agile.
Mazda puts something in their cars that's hard to put into words, but they drive really nicely. The steering throttle and brakes give an excellent feel that's not matched by many other cars.

Idk, I've never been a Mazda Fanboy. I've always had much respect/desire for their rotary cars but everything else just seemed dinky.
Edit:
Although I will admit their lineup has been getting better and better compared to some years back.
