Any owners here with a S2000?
These gas prices are killing my wife and I with driving the Titan around, she is 10 minutes from work, I am 55 miles one way . $40 bucks to fill up the 8 and the 8 will last her the whole week. If i Take the 8 , it last 2-2.5 days , barely depending on my driving style.
Driving the Titan with $70 buck fill ups will last her till Thurday evening if she fills up on a Monday, If i take it, it will last just a day and a half , with being easy on it. Can't sell it 6k in the hole, and the value has plumeted even more with these outrageous gas prices.
We have to get a 3rd vehicle by May, before this $4 dollar jump in gas. Were going to have to get a 3rd vehicle, we want something fun, gets decent milage, and has decent looks. Here is what we like and what i found out on each vehicle we like.Did some research on the S2000, gets about 340-380 miles on one tank of gas. The RSX-Type S Manual gets 430 miles on a tank of gas. And a 95 Nissan 240sx gets 480 miles on gas. Budget is 10k with 2k in cash down. Seen a 2000 S2000 with 98k for $9800 bucks, of course the RSX is much cheaper and even more so a 95 240sx,$2000-3000 dollar range.
But with owning the RX-8 I love high revving engines now, i would be status quo with the other two, but i would be happy if we could get a S2000. Anybody with one getting even close to that milage that i mentioned above?

I don't own one but I'd say get an Accord. Obviously not considered "sporty" which I can tell you're hoping for but you already have an 8 so it doesn't matter
The Accord will do you justice and you can easily find a good one for 10k.

So that styling isn't so hot, but it is extremely practical, a hoot to drive, loves to rev, and gets good MPGs.
Looks better in blue...

wait till the 2009 models come out. You can get a honda Accord diesel that gets ~60 mpg. Suburu is also pushing out a diesel boxter engine that should beat the economy of the econoboxes.
Diesel may run you $1 more or so than regular gas, but do the math and you'll see which side comes out on top.

Do you folks who are concerned with gas mileage actually take a minute to do the simple arithmetic to calculate what a higher mpg car will actually save you per month? Even with $4 a gallon prices? If you haven't, I invite you to do it. If you're mathematically inept enough that you can't do it (like some if not most Americans unfortunately are), well, have fun your new vehicle.

solution: sell Titan, who cares if youre upside down, you will just end up even more upside down as gas price rise and resale value plunge. loosing some money is better than having a car you dont drive! selling now and loose some money is better than buying a car you dont drive and selling later and loose a lot of money.
sell RX-8.
Buy Lotus Elise,
buy bicycle from Walmart for wife.
Wife needs to stay in shape.
Wife ride bike to work,
you drive elise to work.

18mpg, 15,000mi/yr @ $4.00/gallon = $3,333.33
28mpg, 15,000mi/yr @ $3.70/gallon = 1,982.14
So, $1,351.19 extra spent per year on gas. Well, some may say thats not much. Consider, however, owning a titan in addition ~ I gave a guesstimate of 16mpg but it sounds like it might be doing worse...
16mpg, 15,000mi/yr @ $3.70/gallon = $3,468.75
Thats $6,802.08/year on gas. If the 8 were driven much less and a higher mpg car put in its place (10mpg better isn't unimaginable) Saving $1,351.19 is roughly a 20% savings in gasoline (19.9%), which some may consider decent. Also, perhaps an individual has other expenses that have come up since owning the car? Like it or not some have to pinch pennies for gas (I'm a college student, wow do I know the feeling!) and sometimes the prices/mileage just seem ridiculous. Also, if one plans on keeping a certain car for a certain number of years multiply the savings times that many years (even without factoring in rising gas prices purchasing a 28mpg car and keeping it for 5 yrs vs the 8 for 5yrs yields a $6,755.95 savings - down payment on a new car/extra change along the way - factor in gas inflation and this could be $8-9,000.00 extra)
What am I saying? For those of us who will make it work no matter what the prices are (wow, check out gas prices in eastern europe, I thought they were decent until I realized it was in liters!) then the savings may be nominal. For others who either pinch pennies or are looking more long term it is easily justifiable to purchase a better mpg car.
I vote rsx-s; Interior is great, looks are classy/sophisticated for the $$ and if you ever plan on modifying the engines respond amazingly...
I am so tired of the stupid american cliché; it may seem relatively true but it seems so trendy to put down the country we live in. By no means are we all well educated or (in some people's opinions) as intelligent as other portions of the world but this is not to say other countries haven't had ups and downs. I've been all over the world from a youthful perspective and talked to other's of the same age everywhere from Costa Rica to Russia to Australia. One of the most notable things that I've noticed is that essentially, people are people - no matter where they live; 'the world' just seems to think Americans's leadership is a direct reflection of all of it's citizens...
[/rant] Sorry about that, I've just seen way too many 'stupid american' comments today...
BTW YaXMaNGTO, whats your car pushing? GTO's were a bit of a hidden love of mine for a while...
edit: After reading that a second time I'm realizing how much it contradicts the stereotypical college student's extreme liberalism and disdain for our country haha. For the record I do not support the war, I did not support Bush, my favorite color is green and I loooovveee anything and everything mango.

I am in a similar situation with my 8. My wife drives a Dodge Ram quad cab with 360 V8, which averages about 13-14 mpg regardless of city or highway. Of course, we all know the 8 averages about 18-19 mpg.
I would lean towards a Civic, but I have a cousin who has a Ford Contour SVT that is actually a pretty fun car to drive. Mileage is respectable, around 24-25 mpg. Finding one that hasn't been thrashed is a problem, since the last year of production was 2000 or 2001.
Right before I left for Kosovo, I had a friend who was unloading a 2004 Chevy Aveo sedan. Ok, I know Aveo is not the coolest car around, but it get 34-35 mpg and the asking price was $7,000. Mileage was around 50,xxx if I recall. Well, I thought about it, but just couldn't make up my mind. Of course he sold the car and now I'm still looking for a 3rd car to save money! With high gas prices becoming a permanent thing, more efficient cars in good condition will become harder to find, so if you find one, jump on it.
