Audi at CES 2011
Audi had a large booth at CES showing off several etron concepts including the R8 etron
its due out in December 2012. The entire thing is aluminum and carbon fiber. Im told the whole chassis weighs only 150kg :shocked
and the A1
This one has the one rotor range extender. The Audi rep said the rotary engine AND tranny together weigh only 65KG :shocked x 2!
There are more pictures here http://picasaweb.google.com/charlie....AudiAtCES2011# including one of the new Heads Up display they will be deploying in the next redesign rotation.
Its actually able to show depth so it can point out a turn coming up ahead and the arrow seems like its aways out. It can point out the speed limit change (in eurpoe where the speed limits are in all of the nav systems) and it point at the area ahead where it changes. all sorts of things liek that.
Audoi is also pushing to connects its cars so they can talk to each other and exchange info. USing the onboard sensors to "crowd source" info liek changes in road conditions or accidents that you might want to route around. For instance if an audi crashes and it sets off the airbags an alert could be sent to other cars connected locally to tell them to avoid that area. If the road is wet (rain sensing wipers) or icy (traction control plus temp)
They even want to connect things like street lights and traffic cones. Your car would be told when the light was goign to change from read to green and tell you a speed to drive to help time the light. Traffic cones or a cone at the start of a construction zone could broadcast itsself to a car as it went by and this would be sent to the "crowd" to help you decide which way to go. as the first car exited the zone it could even broadcast how long it took to get through the area.
there was a cool demo using a surface type table. There is more about it on line

Wow a rotary competitor that blows us out of the water with technology huh? Its not as pretty but I sure would love to have that kind of technology in a daily driver. Maybe two rotaries in the future :P
