Audi S5
Finally saw one of these on the road yesterday.
I think it's a real sharp looking car. It's not quite as powerful as the new M3, but I would choose the Audi on looks. Too bad I don't have $50,000 sitting around right now

RS5 is in the works...not sure how you saw an S5, these are not even on the road yet becasue they are not even for sale yet. I would deffintly buy this over over the 3 series. maybe my next car (it has a better chance of me owning this then a GTR)
A5 (265 hp) = 3 series (230 hp)
S5 (354 hp) = ?
RS5 (lots of hp) = M3 (420 hp)
except that Audi has all wheel drive (i guess that adds weights as well though)
rough numbers

Yep, and I get to drive one at Sears Point this Friday
got signed up for the Audi Driving Experience thingy. however from what I was told by others who've done it, the on-track stuff is only lead-follow, not unsupervised.
but, the auto-X course portion is pretty much at-speed

My favorite was the RS4 did you get a chance to drive the RS4 and R8?
I wouldn't trade my RX8 for an S5.
If I was stock yeah but not with my mods.

A5 (265 hp) = 3 series (230 hp) (328i)
S5 (354 hp) = 3 series (300 hp) (335i)
RS5 (lots of hp) = M3 (420 hp)
except that Audi has all wheel drive (i guess that adds weights as well though)
rough numbers
A5 (265 hp) = 3 series (230 hp) (328i)
S5 (354 hp) = 3 series (300 hp) (335i)
RS5 (lots of hp) = M3 (420 hp)
except that Audi has all wheel drive (i guess that adds weights as well though)
rough numbers
S5 0-60 4.9 = 335i 0-60 4.9-5.3 (depends on magazine)
S5 (3593 lbs) = 335i (3571 lbs)
S5 (14mpg/21mpg) = 335i (19mpg/28mpg)
S5 (starts $50,500) = 335i (starts $40,800) -- although the S5 is better equipped at the starting price, i've never seen a 335i for under $47,000, but that's still cheaper than the S5, plus 4 yr free maintenance!
you can get the 3 series, coupe or sedan (NOT the M3 though) in all wheel drive for 2 grand.
anyway, just thought i'd add some more info!

you know (being an 8 owner) that the horsepower rating of a car is not necessarily the same as the performance rating. Saying that the audi's have more HP pound for pound says absolutely nothing about the car's abilities at all.

Just got back from Sears Point! what a beautiful day. No I only signed up for the free program, not the $500 one, so I didn't get to drive the RS4 or R8 :-(
but I did drive the TT, A8, & A6 on the auto-X/car control courses, and of course the S5 on the racetrack.
the S5 is fantastic, but is it 2x better than the Rx8 (commensurate w/ price)?? Nope. although it's got great torque out of the corners and nice road manners, still not quite the same visceral 'feel' as the '8...and yes I've had my '8 on the Sears Pt. track as well (see sig heheh). The TT is a bit more in line with the '8 as far as having that feeling of tossablility and direct input.
I agree w/ the other poster who said they'd take a 335ci over an S5 if it came down to plunking your own hard-earned money. but if you handed me the keys to either, I wouldn't complain a bit!

i think that was me who said that - but now it's me agreeing with you -- i'd TAKE either one too! nice you got to drive those cars. i used to work for bmw and got to drive the 335 a while back and it was ridiculously fun! i'd love to try out an audi though on a track.
