Autoweek Reports Folding Miata Hardtop Model Coming

www.autoweek.com

No pics as of yet. Will be interesting to see how this works out. I want a true hardtop Miata coupe, I don't like covertibles. Maybe this RX/MX-3 will be the answer to that wish.

MX-3 and RX8 mmmmmmmmmmmm...........

One folding hard top.....+100 lbs. The last 3 generations of Corvette are getting lighter and the Miata is progressively getting heavier. My calculus shows by the next generation of both the Vette will be the lighter of the two. By then the Miata will probably have 28" wheels too. Damnit I want my old Miata back!

Since Autoweek is reporting it, it's not happening.

+100 lb is like -10hp, so it's not that big of a deal.

Likely you don't understand the concept of a lightweight sports car. I'll give you a hint; it's about the curves, not the strip.

Oh I understand, I just wasn't thinking about it (although I just did Zoom-Zoom Live so I should have been...lol). For handling, I would be more worried about the top's effect on the MX-5 center of mass than the extra weight of it.

It seems Mazda is forgetting about it too, with the NC being what? 200-250 lbs heavier than the NA?

Yup My '93 B Package with LSD was 2222 lbs. That about 270 less than now.

Forget the extra weight. I'd only buy one if it had a folding H.T. (or was a fixed-roof coupe). I had a '97 Miata for nearly three years. While I loved the car, the soft top was just a bit too much trouble... Didn't seal very well, expensive to repair/replace, and of course the ever-present threat of having some idiot slash your top.
