Integra type R was 1st place, followed by WRX, Civic type R, RX-8 and lastly the MRS respectively. integra type R has 220 hp i believe.
Both the Hondas were cornering faster than the rest of the cars, it seems the nimbleness from being lighter and the type R suspensions are more than enough to make up for the understeer inherent in their FWD design in this race. The civic was able to corner faster than the wrx to close the gap, but wrx overpowed it with the superior power and traction on the straights to keep its 2nd place lead. RX8 was able to pass the toyota MRS into 4th place. But the civic type R was able to corner faster than the RX8. while the 8 starts to catch up on the straights, the lead is extended back at the turns. the MRS, arguably with the best layout used by all the exotic supercars was severely outclassed due to lack of power.
-this race shows that there are many other factors besides the layout of the engine/powertrain that influence a cars performance. we tend to put too much emphasis on the superiority of RWD cars. I feel so bad for those guys that owns a real type R car and have their legacy tarnished by the thousands of pretenders.

all together id rather drive a RWD car over a AWD car, AWD cars are just out there for poeple that either dont have the ***** to drive a RWD, or they just suck period. if you want to have fun driving instead of something easy-going that you would take to the grocery store, go with a RWD.

Shiri makes a good point about the engineering of the Attessa AWD system in the Nissan Skyline. That new 10 second factory Skyline (I believe it's called the Z-tune) uses that time tested platform and supposedly cruises around like a RWD car until it senses a loss of traction and then hooks up the front tires. It's the best of both worlds IMHO and I can't wait to see how Nissan improves upon it to coencide with the release of the new Skyline.

It's all personal preference. Whatever you enjoy driving more is probably better for you. Making a comment about the amount of ***** it takes to drive any one vehicle is like blatantly admitting that you drive a specific car to compensate for your shortcomings.
Now then..
I think that AWD on the skyline is badass technology and a great concept (tho i've never driven one), but then there are still people who complain that it drives them nuts. Again.. it's personal preference.

Nothing beats AWD from a standstill because it provides the best possible traction. On a roll, traction is not as important if I got the car moving, but if I have a lot of power then AWD will come into play again and give me the traction that I need without losing power to the ground.
That's probably the best way of explaining it.

I have driven all of the above cars several times and they are quick but very cheap and not very comfortable... AWD is not faster around a regular road course, on loose surfaces they will have better traction and be faster but on a nice dry track in a car with similar power to weight a RWD car will lap quicker... Four wheel drifts are ok on gravel but not a very fast way around a track nor nice on tires on a road course, you won't last the race...
The EVO and STI are street legal rally cars suited for that type of racing...

For the last freaking time many many rallys are on tarmac, tarmac that often resembles our bumpy roads more than any track you'll ever be on. In addition to that they're just as good on a smooth roadcourse or rally course, yet you seem to look at that as a negative

I have access to these cars whenever I please, and yes I have driven them many times and have had them for several days at a time (Including the MR)... And I have also driven many much faster cars as well...
Once agian they are cheap uncomfortable cars for wanabees...
