BBC Top Gear in US TV deal talks

Hit TV show Top Gear could be heading to the US, after the BBC revealed it is in talks to take it over the Atlantic. The Sun newspaper reported that the show will be fronted by current presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

Bleh, that sucks. American car Top Gear? Nuh-uh.

Seriously, they have a huge backlog of episodes, why not just bring them directly over here!? We've been clamoring for it for the longest time, but they always give us some watered down crap, forcing us to pull a Torrent of the episodes we really want. Remember when Discovery tried bringing it over, but they cut out all the parts that we "obviously" didn't want to see, then they decided nobody was watching it so they cancelled it? I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu.

I agree, the show will probably suck and get terrible ratings because everyone who watches the show will just download the British ones.

I'll take a pass. I'd rather watch the commercial-free torrent and be entertained for a solid hour.

No idiot producer would set up a show here that just had American cars (I hope!)
Even so, the guys are funny so it would probably be better than most auto programming we have here.

Yep, I remember what happened and it did suck. But, from reading the article, it looks like this is going to closely mirror the British show.
I will continue to download the original version on bittorrent. But, I will be watching this one also.

So they are going to lambast every American car that comes on the show?!?!

seriously though, how interesting will the show be able to be just doing American cars? The other problem is the British Humor wont cross over to the American Version

If they do just american cars the show will suck and be canceled very damn quickly. I miss seeing the show even when it was on discovery it was edited severly.. atleast it was a entertaining car show.

yeah if they have an american only version (cars that is) its going to be boring as hell. I love top gear because it gives me all the cool stuff we dont see over here in the USA. and their weird ritish humor and references are funny as hell. The masses here in the US arent capable of appreciating it.

Unless Jeremy clarkson does nothing but talk about nascar and rave how good dodge and chevy are (and only reviews trucks) ONLY then will the show be a success.

I really doubt it would be just American cars. Think of the RX-8 -- Top Gear never tested the American version. Of course, they probably wouldn't test exotics that can be had anywhere, but they'd probably do all sorts of fun an entertaining things with minivans and the like.

I would watch it, and so would all of you. We'd also all continue to watch the British version. Just accept it and move on.

Is it really that hard just to play the original British episodes on American TV? I am surprised the SPEED Channel doesn't bring it over. They probably can't afford it, haha

They don't want it. Just like they won't pay for WRC. If it ain't NASCAR, they feel it has limited viewership.

If they do have an American version, I just hope they don't get the host from Future Weapons. He can't act at all.

Yeah that guy is wayyyyyyyy to dramatic/excited. It makes every episode seem like the same thing. They should get Ermey from Mail Call/Full Metal Jacket to host Future Weapons.

Hmm I knew they shot a pilot in the desert near Vegas last year with an American stig. There was even a picture of the 3 hosts floating around on some forums and ppl were saying Jay Leno would make guest appearances but I thought that got scrapped cos there was no way the show could be as funny as the UK version.
