Bought a 240z.....
Well the title pretty much says it... and you can assume the worst for the car. Its totaled.
I was clipped by a drunk driver on US1 here in Miami about 2 months ago. The roads were still a little damp, so it caused my car to spin up onto the median and slam head first into a Palm Tree going 55-60mph. The tree and the car were totaled, but amazingly my girlfriend and I both walked away WITHOUT A SCRATCH ON US. Looking back on the magnitude of the crash, it is a miracle neither one of us was injured, or for that matter killed.
The insurance company gave me top dollar for my RX8, and I pulled off what aftermarket items I could to sell. After a few weeks of searching I found myself a new set of wheels.
So what did I get?
A 1971 Datsun 240z, in A+ condition inside and out. The real kicker though, it has a Nissan Skyline RB20DET motor swapped into it with the RB20 tranny and TEC-3 standalone engine management.
Currently I am finishing the build on the car which includes:
280zxt gas tank swap
MSD fuel pump
Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator
Procharger Intercooler with custom piping
Jegs Racing Radiator and electric fans
Greddy type RS BOV
Turbonetics Evolution Wastegate
Autometer gauges
AEM WBO2
Greddy Profec-B specII EBC
Holset HY35WE turbo
550cc injectors
Tomei Metal Head gasket (1.5mm)
Port, Polish, and decked head
Greddy Timing belt
ARP hardware
R200 differential swap from a 280zxt
Then its off to Central Florida Turbo to get tuned.
Shooting for ~400whp/tq daily driven on 14+psi. Should make those numbers easily. And all with a curb weight of about 2300lbs. Needless to say, this thing is gunna flyyyy.
Well, thats it. I figured Id let everyone know Im out of the RX8 world... for now at least
Ill post pics shortly.

I have never been in an accident, but after reading what you experienced I would never even consider an older car and on top of that a car from 1971?!
The safety standard improved so much over the years its scary to think how unsafe these older cars are!
The RX-8 Won VS the palm tree, but the palm tree would win vs the 1971 datsun.

Damn! Glad you're ok! Another loyal 8 Sacrificing it's life for it's masters.
I'm kinda surprised you went with such an old car as well, but I suppose that the statistical chances of getting hit by another drunk driver and thrown into another tree are pretty damn slim. Enjoy your new toy, and drive safe

once again, a story of our RX-8 being there for us when we most need it.
+1 to newer and safer.
Hope you enjoy the new car, sounds like it could be quite a little monster.

Pics!
As you can see the entire drivers side front is gone, the rim and tire, with the brake assembly still attached inside landed another 50 yards down US1 from us.
Looking at the pictures, it is amazing we were unhurt.
But, onto better times! The Datsun will have some safety updated made to it, inluding a custom 4point roll cage, new bucket seats and racing harnesses, new brakes and most importantly, a much more timid driver behind the wheel.
Wanna hear ironic though? I was out filming a few cruise around pulls today and a lady in a mini van almost took me out about 2 blocks from my girlfriends house. Gotta love miami.
Ill post a few more pics, gimme a sec.
