Bought a GTO!

I would rather supercharge or turbo my RX-8 than to switch, if all I want is extra HP, than to get something slightly inferior.
* There is currently only one option right now (aside from a custom job) that would put the 8's power/weight ratio on par with a GTO, and that is the PTP kit. 3800 lbs./400 hp vs. 3000 lbs./320 hp. The PTP setup is good but doesn't have a broad of a powerband (average power vs. peak power)
* A boosted 8 will quite possibly lose a motor, and not have a warranty. A GTO will probably not lose a motor and if it does, it's under warranty.
* V8 bellow vs. rotary whirr...personal preference
* The 8's tranny is slick but relatively fragile compared to the T-56, which is relatively crude but built like a brick shithouse.
* A LS2 has far more N/A upgrade options than a rotary, and will make greater percentage gains with those mods.
* He may not live in an area with twisty roads. I have to drive over an hour before seeing any curvy roads, personally. If the LS2 GTO had been available in August 2003, maybe I would have got one instead, I dunno.
Or maybe I'll wait until my warranty is up and drop my car off at Hinson Supercars, and have the best of both cars, muwahaha. Once I find a higher paying job, that is.

Update.....
Ok so I applied the yellow "GTO" inlay on the rear lower portion of the bumper. I like it but the rear just looked too "busy", is the best way I can describe it. So yesterday I decided to remove the rear spoiler. So far I like the look. So what do some of you think about it?

My brother's trying to convince me to SC it. Here's the link he sent me today.

Here's option B spoiler. Uses the existing stock spoiler holes, which is kinda nice.

Keep it spoilerless!!! Looks great! You put 18's on it, and you'll be really happy with the look.
But wow, I really really don't like that B spoiler. In person, it's not real pretty. There's one made by JHP that I think looks incredible. Here's some photos... a drawback is that it doesn't use the stock holes, so more $$$ at the body shop to do it right.

The color, rims and whole appearance of that one makes it look like the previous generation Chevy Cavalier coupe. Not the image that one wants to present in a GTO.

Coming from someone who works on cars for a living... GM is junk! One guy I work with threatend to quit today if they make him work on another chevy! I know the 8 has its share of problems but GM cars are very, very porely made(I spent 5 years working for chevy in daytona) Now I work for toyota. You may be very happy with your purchase, just dont ever work on the car yourself. If you do you better have some tissues because you will CRY!!!

BTW-Try Eibach's Pro-Kit lowering springs on it. I've driven two GTO's with their springs (one S/C'd and one turbo'd) and they handle terrific that way. Really improves the look too, without costing an arm and a leg.

Yeah I've been checking out suspension mods. It seems that Pedders is the choice of most GTO owners.

why's everyone hating on tigger??? he had one of the nicest rx8's before getting his GTO. Plus its the 12th page of HIS thread, everyone said what was to be said already months ago, so negative input is useless. Yeah you can show your opinion and its welcome, but its old news and now we're discussing what he's doing to the car.
looks good tigger, enjoy the wicked fast 'junk'

It's cool. I have pretty thick skin. Comments like that don't bother me.I didn't expect everyone here to
understand anyway.
What I get tired of are a few here who have compared the 8 to the GTO. Two completely different cars.
I do miss the agility and handling of the 8. But I think the HP/torque can be just as addicting.
I've only owned two imports,Nissan and Mazda. Both great cars. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another but,
having grown up with domestics(mostly GM), probably played a part in my decision to buy the GTO. That and maybe
the lack of twisties here in FL.
Lots of great engineered cars on the market these days, and a lot of choices. That only makes purchasing one
that much more difficult. Different cars for different people for different reasons.
Life is good.

And this is what I keep trying to tell the haters out there. If you live in someplace l ike Florida... a GTO or Mustang GT become a lot more attractive just because there are pretty much no twisties... just lots of straight line driving (why do you think drag racing and NASCAR oval track is so popular?!).
They're all great cars engineered for different markets... different tastes. Different strokes for different folks. Don't hate on someone for also liking something different.
