I'm glad that you continue to like your car. Car buyer's regret is horrible.

I think it looks like ****. Who would ever actually pay money for a car like that?! Complete and utter JUNK.

I can't believe someone might actually own more than one of them also!

What? Florida may be flat.. but there are some really good twisties If you know where to go! I grew up in upstate NY and there are more hills but its not like the roads down here are just straight! I ride twisties in the everglades on my bike like you have never seen! Daytona is the motorcycle capital of the world..not all straight lines! (Round Track) or daytona 500 was invented on the beachline of daytona for its size and hard pact sand. By the way Daytona speedway is not round there is an awesome infield with great corners!

Tracks don't count and Motegi is better than Daytona's infield.

The Everglades is a long drive from Orlando for just a day ride.

I knew the entire Orlando area like the back of my hand when I lived there... it's my hometown and my parents still live there. And at that time... no twisties. yes there are a few curved roads and on/off ramps... that **** doesn't count. We're talking about a good long length of road (particularly through the mountains) with lots of curves. There just isn't that in Central Florida. On the other hand Winston-Salem, NC has a few twisties and there is always the dragon...

My father is from upstate NY and my grandparents still live there. What part?

* A boosted 8 will quite possibly lose a motor, and not have a warranty. A GTO will probably not lose a motor and if it does, it's under warranty.

* V8 bellow vs. rotary whirr...personal preference

* The 8's tranny is slick but relatively fragile compared to the T-56, which is relatively crude but built like a brick shithouse.

* A LS2 has far more N/A upgrade options than a rotary, and will make greater percentage gains with those mods.

* He may not live in an area with twisty roads. I have to drive over an hour before seeing any curvy roads, personally. If the LS2 GTO had been available in August 2003, maybe I would have got one instead, I dunno.

Or maybe I'll wait until my warranty is up and drop my car off at Hinson Supercars, and have the best of both cars, muwahaha. Once I find a higher paying job, that is.

MazsportScott's new turbo kit for the RX-8, https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/new-turbo-kit-88323/

...is pushing 300 RWHP at 5 psi, 324 RWHP at 7.5 psi, and 334 RWHP at 9 psi. Thats RWHP, BHP/SAE HP would obviously be around 15% more. So we are talking somewher around 345 SAE HP at 5 psi and 385 SAE HP at 9 psi.

The guy is not even done yet, so he may get improvements on that and he is planning to do 12 psi to.

A 3,000 pound RX-8 with his kit and 345 to 385 HP (within a safe boost) can pretty much play with anything out there . That include the GTO and higher up the food chain.

Furthermore, the RX-8 can handle the 8 psi range and more. Its a matter of tuning. Of course lower psi is safer, but all reports have shown the RX-8 can handle 8 psi with decent tuning with no problems. Furthermore, all of these kits have lower psi settings, so you can just go for 4 to 5 psi boost. MazsportScotts kit will still give you around 345 SAE HP at 5 psi.

There are a bunch of supercharger kits coming out from Pettit, Hymee, and the Axial Flow from RP. They will be at the 300 BHP/SAE HP and up range.

All these kits will be displayed at SS9 this month.

So if you want power for your RX-8, its a matter of choosing what is right for you at this point.

I'll take the RX-8 and just add one of the kits to it, but do what you like. GTOs are cool too. The world is big enough for both.

Several people have already blown motors. That is not to say that the upcoming kits will also have that problem IF used as directed (no upping your boost on your own).

Either way... your warranty is still void and the 400hp STOCK GTO still has its full warranty. God forbid you mod the GTO... since you are now talking about a modded RX-8... mod for mod... the GTO will easily make more power for less money.

Missed your edit.

Yes the world is big enough for both. That is what people have been trying to tell you. Some enjoy the raw power of the GTO and different handling dynamics with it. Some outright prefer the nimble handling of the RX-8. Different strokes for different folks. As long as you are happy with what you have, then why care what someone else has?

See we can all get along. One thing though. The GTO is pushing 4,000 pounds. If you pull out one of the Horsepower calculators that you see on the net, you would see that more HP is only good if you are at the same weight. If you are heavier than you need proportionally more HP.

A MazsportScott, for example, 350 HP to 385 HP RX-8 would be faster than a stock GTO with 400 HP, because the GTO is heavier. Talking turns and we know the RX-8 would win.

Even if it came to MOD versus MOD, it would depend on what mods were on the GTO and RX-8. At 4,000 pounds, the GTO would have to still need to push some serious HP gains from mods to keep pace with with an 350+ HP RX-8. The MOD thing can keep going and going. You would only be able to decide in a pro drag race at some point and both cars would be worthless for the street.

Why care? Its fun to think about.

no, 3725 is more like pushing 4500lb when youre on the wrong side of the argument while the rx8 is just a tad over 2500lb as you can see the GTO is at a 2000 lb disadvantage or if you are just a tad more linient with the rounding, the GTO is relative twice the weight of an rx8. simple math

and since 400hpx2=800, and +100 for GTO's less efficient Tranny that sucks up more % of power to the wheels. GTO will need around 900hp give or take a few in order to MAYBE keep up with that rx8.

The 8 is far from 2500lbs. It is barely under 3000lbs and thats the base manual model most likely.

Gosh. He's right. Math doesn't lie. I'm in big trouble now.

I live in Austin. I've been to the Protech Performance shop many times, talked to Jon, and I've seen and sat in the project car (didn't get a demo ride, but I asked!). I'm sure there will be PTP turbo RX8's all over the place down here in a little while. Let's see... it had a 0-60 time of 4.9 seconds and it ran the quarter in 13.5 at 109mph. That's pretty awesome!
I better get that 500 shot of nitrous in case I run into one!!! They have over 375 crank hp just like the Mazsport kit!!!

Wait... Car and Driver (wow, same magazine that did the PTP article) got 4.7 0-60 and 13.3 at 107mph out of a completely stock '05 GTO... WHAT??? That can't be right. I need AT LEAST 900hp to beat that 375hp RX8... hmm.

There's no way!!! The math can't be wrong!!! It's not possible!!!

You guys crack me up, BTW.

But you gotta agree, there's one sure fire way to combat ricer math.... MAGAZINE RACING!!!!

After reading this, I thought it was appropriate to revive this thread.
http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=120099

Twin turbo'd LS2 GTO for $5,700 + installation! That's an insane price. How much do you think it would cost to install? Is $1,300 a good number? If so, Twin Boosters for $7,000!

http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/ls1/us_gto.htm

Easily 600 HP and TQ in a daily driver....

I command you to do it, Tiggerlee. Lord knows if I had the cash I would. I wonder what the gas consumption and reliability is like.

thats a bad *** system. I was watching horsepower tv last week and they twin turboed an ls2 vette(i forget what brand system), turbos were located in the rear though. I think they dynoed around 525 to the wheels, sounded sick too.

wow, i hope you're kidding. not only is that the most outrageous rounding ever, but a less efficient tranny? we're the ones with the "240 hp" that somehow turns into 165...
