So she ran great for the next 2k miles until i let her sit for about 3 and a half months (had to go out of town to work) THEN she started over heating and spitting coolant out of the coolant filler tank. I tried burping the car, flushing and after many attempts it was time for a rebuild.. here are the pics removal, rebuild, and re installation... not tooo many in detail but you can kind of get a nice idea.

First fixing some little dents, and repainting.. FIRST time painting soo did not come out PERFECT but it came out ok. 5/6 out of ten in my book.

Also added full auto shine add ons, with MS01's mazdaspeed rins 18 X 8.5 offset 35+ all around.

Ewww look at those rotors! fortunately there was absolutely NO gunk in the engine.. The old man did the oil changes on time, but i bet he forgot to flush the coolant system as it was needed because the culprit was the front housing iron chipped from corrosion and coolant was getting into the combustion chamber.

Ooops almost forgot i also street ported it, but i did not polish it due to atomization of air to fuel mix so i just got rid of some casting and tried to make airflow a bit better. here is a pic of stock port and ported port.

getting installed. The car is now running, i am just waiting on my coilovers, and RB true dual exhaust system.. She still need to get tuned once all the stuff is installed. She now has 800 miles and getting stronger as compression builds up.

Internal mods include, Street porting, Thermo pellet delete, FD oil pressure installed, Other than that everything was rebuild using atkins rebuild kit, with oem apex seals.. all side seals clearenced to .15 to .20 and all internal housings and rotors clearence checked and to factory standard. Rotor housing were sent to GOOPY Performance to get refurbished. $200 dollars. I did not port the exhaust ports since there is really no performance gain in an N/A and what ever performance you do get the Exhaust noise does not justify it. Soo i left it alone.. I port matched the intake runners, installed pineapple racing sleeve inserts to promote better airflow to the ports.

I did something similar, got my 7 3 yrs ago, but had no time to deal with it until recently, the only thing I reuse on the engine would be rotor, front cover, oil pumps and other small stuff. so yep, everything else is 100% brand new, oh yeah, engine alone cost 10 times of what I paid for the whole car lol.

all 4 shocks has been replaced, DTSS gone, springs, some suspension stuff, will rebuild the whole differential and probably tranny.

still got a lot of parts to get, including a new drive shaft, need to replace all bearings, grr. a 20 year old car with 210K on odo, an engine that was rebuild wrong (it has no plastic plug, the outdated o ring part resulted in massive oil leak, outdated corner seal springs resulted in massive compression lost, etc) and lots of other crap.

I got lots of pics, but no plans to post pics until it's all done, including complete body work, repaint, etc. probably another year.

My rebuild cost me around 1700 I replaced the front housing, all of the other ones were within specs. I'm waiting on my stance coilovers and true dual rb exhaust. Its always the small things that break on the old cars.

damn, my car came with Full RB dual Exhaust, I sold it for 700 bux + 150 shipping. lol, it came with the car so I got the car for around 3-400 bux hahaha. sold it because I can't stand that freaking exhaust smell coming into my car all the time. + before 2011 they gotta do emission sniffer test. I sold the set, then they changed the rules. damn NYC

yea, lots of small things that break, still got to replace a lot of them. again, it's a 20 yr old car what can we expect?

just noticed u said the front housing chipped, is it at the bottom of the housing? if so that's a usual area to have coolant seal fail for the 2nd gen. Mazda was stupid to machine the coolant seal groove there. later version they moved it back the way it was. problems solved.

Yeah man they do that sniffer test heree too but there are ways around those tests. The exhaust gases could have came in due to old window seals no? even the seal on the hatch no??

yeah it broke. then it bagan to overheat because it was spitting the coolant out through the filler tank.
