Bye bye GMC and Pontaic

I think they should make a GMC branch for Chevy (as in higher up models). This way they can have the affordable models, with the option to make them a lot nicer, for cheaper than Cadillac.
As for Pontiac, they were supposed to be GMs sporty division...but they have failed miserably with bad rebadged cars. As for the G8, it's a cool car that just can't sell. GM did a good thing by getting rid of them; however, getting rid of Saturn is a TERRIBLE idea. Saturn has been making great cars lately, they have significantly improved their image, and are becoming a decent company rather than a KIA competitor.

And as far as figures go, I can't find the article with the numbers, but GMC has the highest volume of truck sales out of any company (im not talking ratio or %, but total number).

Yes, Buick is an icon!
Asia loves it. I love them. They have have never had reliabilty problems. Buick makes big money over seas.
Saturn, wrong decesion... You want to make small cars with good gas milage like Toyota andd Honda. Why then get rid of Saturn.
Consolidation yes GMC same as Checvy trucks, Pontac merge into Chevy including Holdens,
Saturn into Chevys.
This will only give them a better brand recognition.
Main thing to do is get rid of the dealer networks. Theres a dealer in every town and GM can't get rid of them without being sued and loosing big bucks.
These contracts are with family owned businesses that go back several years.
That's why bankrupctcy is the only way to get rid of the networks.

I may be wrong here but, aren't the new Saturn's rebadged Opels? And the Pontiacs that are worth buying Holdens? GM USA has done nothing new. They just import cars now, put a badge on them and there you go. So how is this different from buying an import?

whatever makes GM more competitive and efficient is a good move in my book. They should have done this a long time ago, and they would be in a lot better position than they are in now.

Other than the G8 and maybe the Solstice, the division is just a bunch of rebadges and is irrelevant at this point. The G8 should have been badged an Impala SS. It would have sold far better. You could probably fit the Solstice in the Chevy line somewhere also.
Buick should also be closed here. The mediocre products like the Lucerne and Lacrosse only appeal to the traditional 68+ Buick buyer. The Enclave is what Cadillac needed to replace the SRX. The upcoming Lacrosse is again a more entry level car for Cadillac now that the CTS has moved up in size and price.

LOL! The G8 is a rebadged Holden Commodore and the Solstice is a rebadged Opel GT. Guess they don't have any decent cars!!!

Maybe GM should just be GM and drop the other brands. After all Honda is Honda, Subaru is Subaru, BMW is BMW. Why the "Play the rebadged GM car" game?
BTW dear OP.... it is PONTIAC not pontaic.

like 10 yrs ago. I was in China then my cousin asked me "Have you ever heard of "Bi-Huk" I was like "???????, wtf is that" she said "Well, its an very famous American Brand, you never heard of it ? " I was like "nope, maybe if I see it I will know" (duh, they have some very weird chinese sound so nope" then one passes by she pointed it out like "hjey hey, that one that one" I was like "ermph ... ok, well, not doing very well in USA, guess pretty good in China huh ?"
and yeah, that was 10 years ago.
Nothing much has changed huh ?

GM has said already they plan on focusing on Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac as the core brands. GM is superfluous and Pontiac is a ship w/o a rudder. Wasted potential with Pontiac. Some bright spots then crap like the G3.

It always sucks when a company or part of a company goes bad because people at the bottom of the ladder get the worse of it. I guess the reasoning for letting Pontiac and Saturn go is the fact that they're mostly reworked imports, well at least the newer batch of models. GMC and Cadillact trucks, nothing more than re-styled chevy trucks with different trims.
I guess GM feels compelled to keep buick-even though they allowed to become synonymous of a leisure retiree brand-to compete with Ford's Mercury, Lincoln, Lexus and maybe even Acura.
Chevy will soon have models to compete in most categories. The Beat, Orlando, Cruze, Malibu, Impala. My guess is that buick will become mainly a FWD division with maybe 1 RWD halo model.
