Calculating mind?
Does anyone else brain start to crank out calculations once they get into a car? I have noticed a habit of mine a few days ago. Whenever I get in my car to go somewhere I begin to calculate mileage to my destination, fuel I would use for the trip, average fuel I use overall, next fuel stop, time to destination, shift points, mph, average ramp speeds (on daily route to work and home), lines to take to maintain speed for ramps, brake use vs mph in turns (a bank on the highway and how I can cruise through the turn without braking while I maintain a good speed. Things like that...or am I just a psycho? lol.
It's like I have a pit crew in my head. I think its fun seeing how I take the on-ramp and at what mph (legal) I took it and compare it against my previous runs. Am I the only one? Maybe I just need to race (auto-x, road course) again, soon.

1) It would defy the laws of physics, and
2) There wouldn't be a restriction built into the ECU that limits your RPMs to 6K while the engine is cold.

OnRails has the right idea.
When he mentioned that I realized that I do all of those things without realizing it, especially on longer drives.
I get a kick out of telling someone I'll be there in 27 minutes instead of rounding up to 30, I guess I'm wackier than I thought! :P

i don't know what you got, but i live 2 min from the hwy and if am late to go to work, i have redline, first and second gear, with no problem, and on my othe two (86 GXL, 94 TWIN TURBO)

For me its more about suspension physics. Whenever I drive the twisties (I live on a mountain basically so almost every day ) I'm always figuring exactly how the weight it distributed among the different wheels, the slight roll in the tires, laws of inertia, early/mid/late apex, and how I would react if I suddenly got a flat/car swerved in front of me/etc. Oh, another big thing for me is figuring the perfect moment for that covetted heel-toe so I can blast out of the turn, weight dist unchanged by downshift. My mind is a busy place when I drive and I love it :D
Oh, I too keep my shifts under 4k for the first mile or two, until the temp rises to midway.
