The only "credit" I can give them is at least it's what I woudl call a 'minor' issue and they caught it early.
YES, having your car turn off while driving is NOT 'minor' but the problem is and can easily be fixed. We've seen FAR worse recalls from GM in the past...
Now they better hurry the f00k up with this damn recall, I need to test drive one. GF really wants to buy one of these next year.

Power!!
Talk to the BMW 7 series owners. They had nothing but trouble with the electronics and the cars used to shut down all the time when the current generation first came out. At least it's just a bad battery cable.

Damn I just saw one today. It was all red and had a V8, which looked AWESOME!
WTV... it's not THAT BAD! The 7 series bmw had terrible problems, especially with the iDrive, which sucks *** too.
Ah well.

Power!!
Not if the battery is in series in the circuit. Most modern cars have the battery as part of the main circuit for the car. I'm not an electrical guy so I don't know why but that's the way it is.

Point is all 1st model year cars have problems no matter the brand name. Pick a car or a company and take a look at their first model year. There are always more problems.
Look at the RX8. Mazda made a ton of TSB's and modified parts for the '04's once they learned what went wrong "in the wild."

It's a Cavalier
Here is the first person to experience it...
Here is the recall information...
While simply cruising at low speeds in a parking lot, the car lost all electrical power, trapping the key and gear shifter. However, a quick diagnoses from her dealership has since revealed that the loss of power was due to a battery cable which had its insulation worn through from rubbing against the starter (her Camaro’s battery cable was routed from the trunk near the starter). The exposed battery cable then shorted out the starter, causing the power loss. Fortunately this is an easy fix and likely an isolated incident.
A product safety recall has been issued for certain sold 2010 Chevy Camaros (V8 engine only). The recall is necessary because of a potential shorting problem with the starter making contact with an exposed battery positive starter cable.
The procedure will involve a temporary fix and/or a permanent fix. The temporary fix will entail wrapping the battery positive starter cable with protective insulating tape and rerouting the cable to ensure proper clearance between the starter and the battery positive starter cable. The permanent fix will involve the same procedure, except with engine wiring harness tape which is being shipped to all dealers by May 11, 2009.
Dealers will give affected Camaro owners the option of the temporary fix which will allow them the use of their vehicles but require a return visit, or leaving the car at the dealer until the the engine wiring harness tape is received by the dealer.
Thankfully, this recall fix looks to be a fairly quick fix (30 minutes or so) and should have affected owners right back on the roads in no time.
