Camaro is taking orders

This thread is yet more proof that this site is anything but a bashing or fanboy site.
I have to hand it to GM - to make 306 hp from a V6 with that fuel economy and weight is notable for any automaker.
This car is 10x more sexy than the Mustang, IMO. It has great proportions and looks more modern than other retro muscle cars, while still maintaining the aura of the original.
Kudos, Chevy.
Now, come out with a V version with the LS3 in it.

I agree, even though I loved my 8 and enjoyed every minute I had with her, I still can't forget my first love. A 1996 Camaro Z28. It may be the way it through me into my seat when I floored it or may be the fact that is was the first car I bought on my own. The new Camaro may not handle like my 8 but it makes up for it in other ways. I would be lying if I said I don't miss the thrill of brake neck acceleration, I would also be lying if I said I won't miss the cornering. Damn I need a car that can do both
I had a '94, '99 and then an '02.. They were all Z's. Great cars and enjoyed them alot.
Got the 8 in '04, it does what it does well, but it's a different animal all together.
I placed my order for the SS with RS yesterday, I was no. 10 at that dealer, they have been alloted 29 of the first run.
The new rear should help the handling alot.

My buddy placed an order a couple of days ago. He has until Feb 16th to change his color and Jan 3rd to change his interior combo choice. Apparently a certain color of blue was scratched from the color choice but now they may bring it back for only early buyers. Delivery date is expected in mid March. I'll post pics when it arrives. Also for the markup skeptics, he bought it loaded for slighlty under 33k. If he gets the special edition color there is no charge.

I think the pricing is fine. Consider some cars that cost you 30k, and you won't even get close to what the Camaro has in it. The S2000, RX-8,350Z,Evo,Sti ,Mustang, 330i, C350 sport,Lexus 250/350. All these cars at 30k will not have 420HP under the hood, if you want 420 Hp under your hood and your looking at new cars, you will have to go well north of the $45k mark.
So much performance at 30k is a steal. I have a hunch that this car will be able to handle too, not like its older brother the Corvette, but it will be able to hold its own against cars i mentioned above.

"So much performance" based off of one engine spec, '420hp'. It makes a good modern day muscle car but really claiming it incomparable to the evo x, hatch sti, 370z because it dwarfs their performance is ridiculous. I would have mentioned s2000 but 08 is the last year.
For some reason I don't think this car will be running down any of said competitors on the track...

Yeah, I remember with the last F-body Camaros, you could get a stripped Z-28 for low $20k range. But GM had to kill it off because it didn't sell. Now they're bringing it back but at a higher price?
Anyone who pays anywhere near retail for this car is retarded. We're entering a severe recession and gas prices are still extremely high. After about 3 months of production, everyone that really wanted one of these will already have one, demand will vanish, and GM will be offering $10k off by the end of next year.

Really? Hey, check out the late model GTO - similar 'performance' while it was around.

lol amazingly my rx-8 was a stop gap between having no car and getting the new camaro. I had seen them at the auto shows and knew I would probably be able to afford one by the time it came out. Fact is I probably still could if I traded in my 8. The thing I quickly latched on to however is that EVERYONE wants one, like even people who clearly have no knowledge about cars will be picking one of these up. In my opinion it will be the new Mustang and you will see one everywhere. Now I don't have any FACTUAL information to back this up obviously but in a few years you will see these all over the place. Deep down thats the only thing I want in a car ...... something that's fairly rare, and this car wouldn't do it for me (I dont think). Sure in the beginning it will be a big deal but after a few years I think it will be like seeing a mustang........ not that big of a deal

I'll rather have a new car for 40K so a used e46 is out. Evo is nice but in the end it's still looks like a lancer. Now if I wanted a pure track car then the EVO would be it.

I'm shocked by the posts saying there has been no markup. I'll chalk that up to one of the very few benefits of a tanking economy.
Love this car - and I'm very pleased with what they did with the side mirrors. I knew there was no way they would actually market it with those super skinny (super sexy) sides on the concept, but the end result is nicer than I expected.
Not sure I could look at that interior on a daily basis, though. Retro is cool to a point . . .

There is still no official word from Honda as to what will happen after the 2009 model year (cancellation? replacement?).
I think the S2000 is just about off everyone's radar though. It's expensive and sales are a fraction of what they were just 3 years ago.
It's got its own production line in their Suzuka factory (?) which I believe it shared with the NSX for some time. I think that line has a max production capacity of 60 cars/day, but it's operating at nowhere near that. They're probably hand-building them. :D

Im in Dallas, when u get urs i will be PM'ing ur *** to meet up for a ride!
I like em. Have read a few articles that are giving alot of praise to the V6 version, even moreso than the V8 (prob cuz V8's a beast and needs none). Im looking forward to seeing how these things develop from stock to wild setups.

Um, the S2000 is in fact available in '09 in both base and CR trims.

Actually it all depends on the track, for instance a track like Road America lends itself well to high HP cars due to the really long straights, any high HP car will have a huge advantage.
Which would you put more confidence in - a lightly modified evox or lightly modified camaro SS? This is a semi biased idea but one can't help but keep domestic cars' history in mind...
Here's to hoping chevy did well in areas other than motor
