bad track time due to the wheels spinning most of the way around the track...

It's slow because it has TOO MUCH power. More is not always better.

Clarkson was saying another main problem was the DSC system couldn't handle it ... maybe if the tuning company also provided a "turn this completely off" switch.

Sure, you couldn't race the car normally, but maybe it would be fun to drift?

He could turn it off. It just spins the tires. It may sound strange but that car would be faster with about half of it's power.

I have never been a huge fan of MBZs. They all look alike to me and they are way over-rated. 700+HP & 800+ft./lbs. of torque is useless if it's so much that it slows you down. I think the build statement of that car is "because we can" and targets the wealthiest of brocure mongers.

Nah, that's not a dyno queen to me. A dyno queen in my eyes is something that puts down big numbers on the dyno that it can't attain in normal conditions. Such as turbo cars where they're icing down intercoolers and running the thing so lean that it would probably blow up just from doing a couple 1/4 mile runs. Supras are notorious for this, show me a 900whp Supra and more times than not it's making more like 500-600 when it's actually out on the streets, yet the owner still brags about his 900whp dyno pull.

Well, even if it's not a dyno queen, it's a bench racer's wet dream. I loved the part where it was rocking back and forth coming out of the turn due to the traction control doing various braking maneuvers. Cool car... but WAY over the top... did I miss it, or did they fail to report a price?

Goes to show how useless power is when it can't be put down.

At the begining Jeremy states it's 160K pounds, so I figure that puts in just under 200K, give or take....

If it had too much power, why didn't they just put a rubber stopper underneath the gaspedal?

I believe this is what they used to do in the old days, before the invention of traction control. Some more experienced drivers might also have lifted the foot though.

yes your right, but also a car thats faster with half its hp

A friend of mine has a supra, 897 rwhp but the car just doest hook up, back when my rx-7 had 400whp it could blow the supra, one time he set the supra up for something like 500 rwhp and it was much faster than my fd, you know what he did after that? He tune it for the 800 whp becuse that way he could say he had a 900 whp supra even thoug it was slower

Actually according to x-rates.com, that puts it at about 300k.... actually a little over. Seems pretty steep for the level of engineering that went into this car, IMHO.

Yeah the exchange rate is near $2 to £1, so around $300k mark would be accurate.

Brabus are one of the top tuners for Mercs though (especially around Europe) and their cars are insane.... and ridiculously powerful/fast and all hand crafted, and of course very pricey. They are a step up in insanity from AMG lol.

Yup.

If the car produces numbers that can never be put to use on a TRACK, let alone on the street, it is a dyno queen in my book, even if it does so with 100% reliability.

Thing is they can be put the power to much better use with better tires. Top Gear is all about hyperbole and I guarantee you they played up how bad it really is. Cars like that are meant to be fast GT/Highway cruisers anyhow, and I can guarantee you it has no problem putting the power down there.
