Chrysler Explores Sale of Viper Line

On Wednesday, Chrysler signaled the potential end of an era, indicating that its Viper sports car line could be sold as the company continues to spin off non-core assets.

Hopefully won't happen but I've read similar articles. I don't see how Chrysler would benefit that much in the long run by getting rid of the Viper except to save some short term money on the development of the next one.

I'd rather them sell it than see it die. For awhile now all the motor mags have been saying that the Viper wont see any facelifts or further development because of CAFE and all where unsure of its future. I'd rather see a Tuning Company or a Investment firm if you will take over control of the Viper and let the legend if you will live on.
Think of it this way and I was thinking of this on the ride back home today. If Mazda was thinking of totaly canceling the Rotary Engine due to financial pressure or simply because of CAFE or whateva, would you rather see Mazda just let it die or rather see them try to sell the Rx off to some company be it R-Magic or others that we all know of? Myself I'd rather see it sold and hence see the Rotary live on in some shape or form.

I agree completely, but the hard part is finding another company/investor willing to commit and stick to it (and not just trying to flip it for a profit). Perhaps there would be some pretty powerful/rich/loyal Viper fans willing to step up or make something happen.

In other words, Ford would have an actual sports car in their lineup. Mopar fans' heads would explode. How about give it to Shelby Automobiles, Inc to play with?

I think if such a transaction occurred, it should be with a private company. In other words like how Mercedes signed a deal with Mclaren for the SLR. If they did it that way it'll be easier to swallow then to sell it to Ford or Chevy.
