Civil Disobedience in Arizona

VIDEO: Santas Disable Enforcement Cameras in Tempe

Watch (YouTube link) as some Santas gift wrap three speed and red light cameras.
Tuesday, December 23, 2008

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ A group of Santa impersonators are on the naughty list of Arizona law enforcement officials.

A YouTube video posted Monday shows four people dressed as Kris Kringle, white beards and red hats included, covering three speed and red light enforcement cameras in Tempe.

Two are covered with boxes - one decorated with Christmas wrap - and the third is blocked with what appears to be a red sheet.

The Jackson 5's ``Santa Claus is coming to town'' plays during the more than two-minute video.

At the end is a message that reads:

``Ho Ho Ho! Death to the surveillance state! Free movement for all people!''

The group that posted the video also wrote ``lumps of coal to all of those who make it their business to watch and control.''

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

In the U.K., they hang burning tires over their cams.

I wonder if they could use a little help? I subscribe to Ben Franklin's quote

Epic win, but they should be taking coal dust and blowing them into the cameras so it gums up the works and blinds the camera.

edit: seriously though, i do think its pretty scary how your movements can be tracked across the usa. government surveillance is a huge issue to me. they arent kidding about 1984.

Actually, when it comes to monitoring your life with cameras, it's private companies doing the majority of it. Cameras at stores, gas stations, ATM machines, probably even where you work. Not to mention all of the data mining going on: every purchase you make with a card is a resources to buy, sell, and use.

It's not really Big Brother who's spying on you, it's Big Business. Unless you're in the UK, in which case it really is Big Brother.

Yeah, we're not fans of the speed cameras here. I applaud the effort and what a great Christmas gift Santa brought..

A day without speed cameras!

Funny - we were just discussing the reenactment this afternoon.
We're trying to who gets to do the casting for the sexy female cops.
