The problem is complacency.
The majority allowing the minority to dictate how to live their lives.

Out law sports cars......................

Then BMW would go out of business and soon Mercades would follow.

Gas hogs.....

Don't think that's gonna happen or else Germany may rise to war again.

With the Italians too!

Its just a ploy. Nothing is going to happen. Not to mention a few sports cars do not put out more co2 blah blah blah then all the other cars. Its just a statement to get reactions. Besides, those people that pay the most in taxes are the ones who own those cars....

Get rid of private jets too then. And huge mansions which use up so much energy. Basically get rid of all luxury items that use power.

Good luck trying this. Automakers are huge employers in Europe with tremendous political clout. Not to mention the nationalisic pride behind some of the exoitc auto makers. Ferarri is so far down the list of pollution problems its laugable....they sell what, 5000 cars a year that get driven 10% of the time?

This smacks of the usual socialist have and have nots bullshit that always happens at the top of the market cycle when the rich are at there best as far as extravagent spending (see dot com history).

I got $100 says no way this ever happens. Takers?

Thats dumb, everyting goes 100 miles per hour. So are they going to start putting limiters on the cars or just make 2 ton cars with 68 hp engines? If all you need is a limiter then that would not change anything. I have the most fun in my car in 2-3 gear, well below this limit.

Electric powered vehicles actually were the dominant form of automotive transportation for a while, until the ICE became sufficiently refined. The ICE became the power source of choice because of its long distance and high speed capability and low mass and size. Today, it still leads the competition (electric and fuel cell, for the most part) in these same areas, and though the gap is closing they still have a long way to go to catch up and become truly competitive.

Al Gore III showed us hybrids will go 100 mph. German cars are already limited (electrically governed) to 155 mph.

Indeed. I've read that they estimate the damage caused by the production of hybrid vehicles far exceeds any benefit.

Maybe Al Gore and the rest of his ilk should just quit breathing. Less oxygen consumption + less CO2 production = good for the planet. Problem solved.

Not to mention the power plants pollute more when making electricty.

The only real option is propane/hydrogen.

So let's get with it and all buy a rotary hydrogen/propane powered 8.

HOW BLOODY TRUE MATE!!....

Like the Kyoto Protocol that America and Australia refused to sign/agree to, I don't think any Kyoto member nations will come close to meeting their targets..

So lets add a carbon tax and screw the consumer a little more.....for what!
Penalize our efficient industries, let alone employment, but let those countries like China and India do what they want.

It is ALL , SPIN,SPIN and More SPIN

Here is another expert good old Al Gore...the guru of climate change, the doom and gloom buddy for the greenies.

Yet this bloke just happens to have an annual power bill of $30,000.00 US.
Great to see he is doing his bit for the world..what a hypocrite.

The folks against sports cars in Europe and big sport utility vehicles in the U.S. often are same ones who hate McMansion-sized homes, corporate jets, jumbo freezers, yachts, 60-inch flat-screens TVs, overnight-delivery services and other trappings of Western-style wealth and energy use.

Do people demonize these goods because they can't afford them? Or because they think others shouldn't have them? Proposals to limit carbon dioxide often sound like basic opposition to prosperity and rising living standards.
There you have it ladies and gentlemen, the whole focus of this entire proposal. This is just another effort to do away with any kind of luxary living because there is a small movement of people who believe that if they cannot have something then no one can have it.

What population of europe own such exotic cars? I can't imagine it's very hight otherwise what would the point be to own such a vehicle? The notion that banning such vehicles will have any environmental impact is absurd.

Bottom line is the campaign to combat global warming is simply to advance a political agenda, nothing more. Look no further than the talking heads fueling this movement. They have admitted this fact openly and frequently. It has everything to do with politics and nothing to do with the environment.

32 mpg isnt a really bad figure. The lawsuit is justified, 'leading' advertisements really suck and most car advertisements have their ginormous white block of text that appears for seconds before disappearing.

I agree about the HUMMER, it really doesn't belong for personal use. It's more suited for military, fire, and maybe police stations in larger cities.

1. We need something to work toward so luxury items are necessary, it is part of what drives the world.

2. Hummers for personal use can be quite useful depending on locale, not particularly useful for city driving but they look damned cool.

3. The Tesla looks promising, if they mass produce the price will come down from the $96,000.

4. If we took away luxury items there would be less taxes paid by the rich due to not paying luxury tax and less drive for them to make money so the lower and middle class would see a raise in taxes because it has to come from somewhere.

5.Those that complain about luxury items should make themselves more useful and join a monestary.

Not sure if this was partially directed at my above post but I was being sarcastic. I should have added a smiley at the end :-P

Exactly! Most office windows don't open! Not running the AC isn't even an option. I think telecommuting would make a much bigger difference in the grand scheme of things. It seems like with VoIP phones and GoToMyPC.com, most people could work from home one day per week.

Hahaha, I'm sorry that would be hilarious. But this time, the USA will follow Germany and Italy with our SUVs.

You have to remember, the Green Party got it's start in Germany. It has, in the past, got many people elected to positions of political power. A lot more than the Libertarian Party in the US.
