Cobalt Faster than STi & Evo X
It's true...
At Car and Driver's new annual Lighting Lap of VIR, the Cobalt SS ran a 3:13 while the WRX ran a 3:19 and the Evo at 13:13.3. The SS also beat a S2000 and Elise. Stock cars... same drivers.
check out the stats at: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...p_2008_feature
the results are at the bottom of the page.
I mean, the new STi is kind of a joke, since Subby changed it up to be a little more family friendly. But being able to beat an Evo, Honda, and Elise!? This thing is a beast that seriously threatens my view on pocket rockets.

What's objective about a lap time? seems like a FWD car was just faster. I'm sure if I search the site for the year the Mazda3 set the fastest FWD laptime we wouldn't have a bunch of 8 owners saying it's BS.
Haters? check.

no not the laptime and im not hating on the cobalt. im just saying judging street cars on one lap time seems really goofy. ive actually been pretty intrigued by the new cobalt

and objective analysis is straight numbers.
i don't see how it's bs. you take a bunch of cars. you run them through a couple of practice runs, and then you shoot them through the same track under the same conditions and measure how fast they go.
this is not a subjective test. numbers do not lie.

This is all I am saying.
I simply take it as gospel that teh evo is faster around any track than a cobbled cobalt. I dont CARE what the numbers say. That is my religion.
To suggest otherwise is heresy and is deserving of a good 10 lashes.

yeah i meant subjective. i fail.
it seems like they relied on the lap times and specs less and harped more on how the car felt. i dont know what im sayin dude. nevermind. fail.

Besides the blah looks I haven't heard anything but good stuff about the new cobalt....looks pretty damn impressive to me.....I remember and article a while back where they stated that the new cobalt is the best handling fwd car ever!.....significantly better than the integra type r.....which is again, impressive.

Maybe on the Evo sites, but a lot of the Suby guys were rooting for the Cobalt. You can only take so many failed attempts at a sport compact from GM before you start to feel bad for them. The Suby guys are happy to see GM finally bring some competition.

Wotever maradona! I still would pick Evo X or S2K over a chevy anytime anywhere and in any situation....
It maybe faster.........but it fails in every other area....!! Interior/exterior styling, reliability, comfort, noise level (inside the car), driver friendliness, resale value,,,,I can go on and on.... and the last but not least... popularity with chicks!!.... You will never impress any decent and hot chick with a cobolt...:P

And yet, any hot chick who is decent wouldn't be impressed by a car anyway.

all i can say is blasphemy. the fact (as proven by the numbers) is this fwd CHEVY kicked some serious ***. and that's absolutely ludicrous. it just isn't supposed to happen. wth...

Why isn't it supposed to happen? FWD cars have been beating RWD and AWD cars in racing series all over the world for years. It's no suprise that when you throw racing rules out the window, concievably someone could build a FWD car that's faster than similarily priced RWD or AWD cars.
I leave the decent hot chicks for the decent men. A man of discriminating tastes like myself dates only superior examples of the gender.
Who am I kidding, if a chick told me my car wasn't good enough I'd tell her she's fat and let her walk home for the exercise.

Here are the nurburgring times for the cobalt, and everything that it tied/beat. You will see some pretty impressive cars that it beat/tied with including the E36 M3, new M3, Lotus Exige, Porsche's, Mazdaspeed 3, 350z, and c5 corvette.
