CX-7 production Starts
HIROSHIMA, Japan, February 20, 2006 — Mazda Motor Corporation today held a ceremony to mark the start of production of its all-new Mazda CX-7 crossover SUV. Designed and engineered specifically for the North American market, all CX-7s will be built at the Ujina Plant No. 2 (U2) located near Mazda’s global headquarters in Hiroshima. Mazda’s President and CEO, Hisakazu Imaki, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) President and CEO, Jim O’Sullivan, and approximately 700 Mazda staff attended this event.
The five-seat CX-7 crossover SUV is produced on Mazda-derived platform architecture and will begin at $23,750 for the front-wheel-drive Sport model. Matching its sporty appearance, the Mazda CX-7’s performance is powerful and dynamic. All CX-7s will be powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine that produces 244-horsepower.
“The CX-7 wasn’t even a sketch on a cocktail napkin a little over two years ago,” said O’Sullivan at the ceremony. “The fact that I’m standing here today watching the first CX-7 roll off the line marks a milestone in Mazda’s ability to design and engineer vehicles for specific markets such as North America.”
CX-7 is offered in three trim levels – Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. All models come with six-speed sport-shift automatic transmission, 18-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel vented disc brakes, air conditioning, power windows, door locks and mirrors , cruise control, and six air bags. Also standard on all CX-7s is an A nti-lock Brake System (ABS), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and a Traction Control System (TCS).

I'm going to the Canadain Auto Show this week to check one out. However even if I really like it I'm not going to pre-order. I want to wait until all the bugs are ironed out. I don't want to go threw the same thing I did with my RX8.

It appears that Mazda Australia are receiving supplies this year and are to release the CX-7 before Christmas 2006 instead of the early 2007 launch which was the original schedule.
Unfortunately the CX-7 is only available in Auto Transmission.
The New 6 speed auto for the RX-8 is also to be released here this year, very soon.

FYI Mazda announced this week that CX-7 sales will start next month (April) in the U.S. VIN numbers are starting to show up on the Mazda web site when
doing a inventory search. It is my understanding that the first production units will be on the boat shortly.

We are looking at one of these, or will look at them when they get to our area. The dealers said about 6-8 weeks until we get them here in El Paso/Las Cruses area.
My wife already has a color and trim picked out that she wants. Trading in the truck to get one of these just as soon as they get here.

I know that it's a CUV, but man that thing is a bit smaller that I figured it would be. Either that or the two guys in the pics are really tall. Still very nice looking though.

Does anyone know anything about the CX-9?
All I've heard/read is that it's supose to seat 7 and should be at the New York Auto Show ...
Since we're a family of 4 and need to haul around the kids and their friends ... this is the one that I plan on (talking to my wife - than) trading in our Passat!

I'm happy Mazda kept it looking very much like the concept. I'd like to see my wife in one of these...but not enough flow for the moment.

CX-7 is probably similar in size to the Murano while the CX-9 will likely be similar in size to the X5.

Also, for a company that touts "Zoom Zoom" so much, why wouldn't they provide the option of driving a stick shift? My lease on the 8 is up next year and I'd seriously consider getting one of these if I didn't have to settle with a boring automatic. I have no problem with them making the auto standard since most drivers will want that, but they should at least provide the option.
