Design renaissance?
After a couple of decades of jellybean, slick, "aero" or "euro" or whatevuh trend the '89 Taurus set, we finally get cars with some serious *****, design-wise. To me, the 90's and early 00's were defined by inoffensive, boring, me-too styling.. couldn't tell an Accord from a Camry from a 626 from a Tarus from a Regal.
Then came the Rx-8.. bold, elegant, and still an Rx, visually. At the same time, Caddy was putting creases back on cars.. Lotus gave the Elise a very daring bikini for bodywork..
Then Pininfarina pens that sinfully delicious Ferrari 599.. the first Ferrari I've felt which comes even close to the sheer sexiness and elegance of the 275 and 365. (sorry, thought the 550 and 575 were just too.. tame, visually.)
And now Maserati, with another Pininfarina design.. the GranTurismo. The Coupe and Quattroporte were, like the 550 and its bigger brother, just too tame to be Italian.
Oh, you so sexy... for a Maserati, that is.. clicky! Too bad it doesn't have a 12 under the hood.. just yer typical ferrari-built bent-eight. :P
No more jellybeans, PLEASE!

Manufacturers have started to make front grills more prominent design features on cars. Many cars in the 80s and 90s had small or covered up grills and the new ones that could swallow a cow have pushed cars to be more interesting looking.
