A month? wth? Were you in jail? Okay, okay, that's irrelevant.
If it's running now, no CEL, no apparent problems I would't lose sleep over it.
Let's see, a month. Gas is probably okay - not great, but better than say, gas that sits in the lawnmower all winter. If you're driving at all that slightly stale gas won't last anyway.
I'd worry about your tires a bit. Any major flat spots? I'd be wary of that *before* leaving it parked for a month, but it might be excessive to put it up on stands.
Search around for the threads written about people storing their cars for the winter. See what they do before and after.

I'd be more worried about why my battery was deas after only 1 month.
No the smoke is normal, as is the smell. It will go away quick.
I wouldn't be worried as long as after you jumped it, it cranked up right away.

The stock battery sucks.
I've left mine for a month before. It's cold now.
Probably extra fuel and residue. Don't woory about it OBEEWAN. Condensation forms and looks like smoke. Are you sure it was smoke?

probly condecation in your pipes and as for the battery if you go to a dealer more specificly i have seen them in vw's they have a solar panal they lay on the dash and plug into the cig lighter to keep the battery charged becuase when you think about it your digital gauges are still working your ecu is working and your alarm system is working so dont worry bout it, if its working find. but like cool blue said i would be more worried about tires and stale gas. if you plan on doing this more you can go to the vw dealership and they might give you one of the panals, i would put it up on blocks or stands, and go get some gas stableizer
