Driving Shoe recommendations?

Does anyone have a pair of "driving shoes" for autox or just the spirited weekend drive?

I usually wear boots, but make it difficult for proper shifting/heel and toeing.

I saw Oakley sells race shoes (too expensive) but does have the Thirteen Twenty's for $90.

Has oneone tried these or any other brand of driving shoes? What kind were they, and what are your experiences with them?

I've heard from serious racers that wrestling shoes are virtually identical to racing shoes for a lot less money. Often, the only difference is racing shoes use flameproof material. If that doesn't matter, check our a sporting goods store. You can save a lot of money (to be applied to mods of course).

When I raced karts and did track days I used wrestling shoes. The most important part to a driving show is having a thin sole with a snug yet comfortable fit. Now when I'm out driving and in some past autox events I've used various Diesel shoes, they have thin soles that are firm but not too firm and they fit like a glove.

Check eBay under "simpson racing shoe" and get one size under.

Great ideas. I thought about using wrestling shoes, but didnt know if that was feasible.

I dont need "racing" shoes persay, I just want something that will make my weekend driving experience more fine tuned.

I dont feel like dropping $100 bucks if I dont have to, so it looks like im going to make a run down to the sporting goods store tomorrow. I think I can pick up some wrestling shoes for like $30.

Ike, Ive got a pair of Keens that are thin soled, but not enough.

i think wrestling shoes is one of the two suggestions you should take seriously; the other, would be rock climbing shoes.

here's a cool pair, the Puma Klim, that are 'inspired' by rock climbing shoes, thin sole, light weight (i think a point missed in earlier posts), probably quite snug fit, and stylin' enough that you could wear them as a regular pair of shoes. you'd probably find about a billion pairs on ebay for not too much.

also, maybe even a third suggestion depending on how bad you think you'll be beating on these shoes, back in the day when adidas actually made real sports footwear for the north american market i remember seeing really kick *** competition marathon shoes: no more than 3 or 4 ounces of shoe. it was an impressive thing, but i'm quite sure would be totally used up after one or maybe two marathons.

I have a pair of Piloti's and they are great, especially for long-distance driving. In most cases, I use my old, worn Adidas' cross-trainers.

I have the Diesel Wish in 3 different colors and they're the just about the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and are excellent for driving, ditto on the Kort.

I found one of my pairs on sale for around $40 at Century 21 in NY, I'd suggest looking at various discounters in your area (TJ Maxx, and various stores in Discount malls that carry designer clothing) if you're interested in a pair for cheap.

Because they're designer, Jil Sander is also 75% owned by Prada now if that sheds some light on it.

So the guy complaining about how the rx-8 brakes suck because there is no BREMBO logo on them would likely want a pair.

I've tried them on, the fit is identical to the Wish model. The only real difference is the leather patchwhork on the outside.

After a bit of research, it looks like a pair off of ebay will come at around $50-80. If you can find any for sale.

I looked around elsewhere online, and managed to find this hidden page on zappos:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p?dp=1772743

You can get a wish shoe for $54, free shipping till the 26th. Only in the plank color though. The other colors run around $88-99.

Those really aren't racing shoes but just driving shoes. I had those Diesels in 2000 and bought them for $60. If you are going to spend $60 on racing shoes with some style/function get Asics. Diesels are ok but not in style.

But czr, what about a pair of Diesels with Kenneth Cole stretch pants on?

Duh, you don't wear those shoes with slacks. You wear them with Jeans. Try Paper, Denim, and Cloth Jeans.
