Evo might have to go?
#28
Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm glad I posted this hear. Cars like the G8, 335xi, Audi A4 and even a used E39 M5 interest me.
Also it's not all about out-of-the-box performance. My Evo is barely streetable right now - it's a weekend warrior built for the track - but it got to this point because of amazing potential. There's more than one way to skin a cat though so I'm curious to see which other platforms have a big upside. BTW, here's the Evo info for anybody interested...

* KW3 coilovers with Swift Springs (F/R: 10k/12k)
* TEIN front camber plates

* Stainless Steel brake lines
* Enkei RCT4 18x9.5 w/Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs
Engine & Drivetrain
* FP Green turbo w/ported housing & high boost WGA
* Titek o2 housing
* EIP ported exhaust manifold (looks 100% OEM)

* WORKS short throw shifter
Misc.
* Perrin 4" shorty antenna
* Evo IX front bumper
* Evo VII tails

the new STI's are too soft... stick with the current EVO that you have and sell the legacy... if you want you could use that money to MOD the evo and you will be WAY happier then you ever would be with a new STI.
evo's have always been better and i think they are still better today..
in the words of the stig, "the sti is a good car, but the EVO is a man's car"
EDIT: i just read your post of how modded your evo is... didnt know it was a track car. in that case, i have heard wonderfull things about the g8. but i would strongly consider a used m3... if you REALLY need 4 doors then maybe like an 02ish m5!

I hate to see a good horse leave the stable, but it looks like the Evo might need to go. I drive the Legacy every day now. But what if I sold the Evo and then took my money and the Legacy GT to a Subaru dealership for a drive in an '08 STi. Initially I'd lose performance going to the new STi but I'm not worried about that. The big thing is potential. What do I lose going from an '05 Evo VIII RS to an '08 STi - or do I lose anthing at all with the platform?
335i has 4-doors. C350 is a nice car inside out too. RX-8 if you value sublime handling. G37S is fast as long as you don't mind girth. Lots of choices. 370z is promising too.

An FP green with a 264/272 combo setup is EXTREMELY streetable.. In your part of town that is a tame setup. With that aside I can assure you youd be disappointed by the Impreza STi, its a car that performs as well as it looks: horrible.
The Forrester STi on the other hand is a gorgeous vehicle that is more practical for its application.
If you are really use to your AWD platform a car like the G8 will be awkward at first but the lack of AWD and FI would be over came by the nice roar of a v8..
You just have to be more clear with what you want.. If you consider your Evos build "extreme" then you wouldn't be looking for the grunt of a car like the G8, but you might be able to make due with a car such as the new Acura TLs or a Lower series BMW such as the 3 (as mentioned earlier) or the 1..
Out of the cars mentioned thus far, I'd go for the 335i just for a good change in the right direction.. That is, if it is within your price range. The new C class is nice as well.

Dehli you're still a moron. You're even worse at reading comprehension. And apparently you're ******* blind too.
Thanks T-Rex. The 1 series and anything FWD aren't for me but I'm looking into the other models you and other have mentioned. And to your point, there are definitely much more powerful Evos out there. My goal was specific to the courses I would be tracking. I'm only making about 400whp and that's on 100 octane. I picked that particular turbo for its spool characteristic and its stealth factor. It looks 100% OEM - as does everything else under the hood. The California smog ***** are no joke.
Anyways the "extreme" part (did I even say extreme?) was really more in regards to the overall package. The suspension setup has been built and tuned for the track, the unsprung clutch/flywheel combo is only comfortable to the driver at 9/10ths, and the rear of the car has been gutted. Anyways I understand that you and dehli are coming from entirely different angles but, just the same, this will be the last I justify the Evo's performance. It's an 11 second car that saw less than 1000 miles in 2008 but, even though it's insured as a recreational vehicle, insurance on the Mitsubishi was more than our Subaru and Infiniti put together!
In any event I've asked $22k for the car and I have a buyer. We'll see if they can get a loan. That's where things are at right now. Thanks again to everybody for the input and ideas.

not to us, but he speaks to clarkson and the stars in reasonably priced cars... i remember clarkson said after the evo and sti both went around the track he said that the stig had told him that the sti was a great car but the evo was a mans car :P
so no, we dont hear him speak... but he does off camera

since someone mentioned it, you should consider the new TL if you can do something about the beaky front end. Acura is going to releasing the 3.7 litre 307hp V6 with SH-AWD system + reliability of a honda for about 40k.
bigger, cheaper, and more useful space than a 3 series.

This new car would be replacing my Subaru Legacy GT wagon as my daily driver. All things considered, that car is no slouch. It's on par with the Mazdaspeed 6. Some of these cars are great suggestions but debatably a step down from the LGT in performance. I'd be more apt to keep that car than replace it with a newer, more expensive car with less performance and nicer amenities.
EDIT: much love for the old DSM's! Thanks again for the input T-Rex.

Sorry. It did come across like I though BMW made a FWd car. I meant the 1 series and anything FWD like Acuras or Hondas are not appealing to me. I'd probably have to add the Audi to the list now too of cars I'm not really leaning towards.

What are the best handling 4 door cars out there right now? Maybe anything used you can think of also. BTW I've been considering an E39 M5 but the cost of maintenance on that car scares the hell out of me. Would love to find one with lots of warranty left but haven't found one so far.

I agree with others on a lot of the cars already listed (335i, g37s or new Z would be on the top of my list)
but if you weren't opposed to another wagon, or had the need for it, a 2005 used Audi S4 Avant wagon would be sweet and you can get one for around 30k in great condition.
v8 Power and a slick package and very much a sleeper. They are very rare too. Stateside, the current gen s4 only comes in 4door
I've been trying to convince my wife to get one as the "family" vehicle
