Finally some new news RX 9

Oh good a debate Thanks Dan
Dan is right up until a point here. A couple of things to remember. Journos always seem to get Mazda dates wrong. When Mazda slips a date like 2013 they mean in that year not for that Model Year. So 2013 doesnt mean in 2012 for US MY 2013, but actually in 2013. Secondly, Since this is being pushed by the US and to some extent the Europeans its more likely the concept or prototypes will show there first. The Europeans want a CX-5 and the US wants another RX they both have to be on board for each others project to get what they want.
2. NAGARE Design Mazda has retired their 'flow' design, Nagare. It is now aiming to rediscover it is a premium and sporty brand, they call it the Japanese Alfa Romeo. According to Mazda Europe's Design Directory Peter Birtwhistle in an interview with Auto Express, Mazda will present a new Concept Car at the next 2010 Paris Motor Show. Typically concepts shown at Eurpoean autoshows have been small-city type vehicles. Look for more concepts at the LA Autoshow this December, or Detroit Autoshow in January 2011. However our money is on the 2011 Tokyo Autoshow for a concept RX-7. But is two years from...
Yes except... It's more like 2 1/2 years AND its not "only" 2 1/2 years , it's 2 1/2 MORE years. They have already been at this for 2 years. They didt build the 16x without an idea of what it was going into. The design competition has already been going on and Im sure there has been some back and forth about which way to go. That's why we hear about possibilities of a 2 and a 4 door car. The 3 studios are all putting their drawings and clay in just as they did for the RX-8. Any nagare inspirations of the sheet metal can be changed before they get to prodution. But there isnt much time to decide which way to go and get dies made.
3. The next generation rotary will run Diesel and Gasoline, and be a two-stroke ... um .. where to begin with this one... First off, the 16x is being developed as a FLEX fuel engine, meaning Ethanol + Gasoline mixture, not a Diesel and Gas mix. We at RotaryNews think someone was told it would be flex fuel, and they in turn though it meant "Diesel and Gas' ... .
Well lets start with the stroke thing- did any article actually say two-stroke? i dont remember seeing that but thats obviously just the normal complete idiocy and mistranslations that surround the rotary.
on the Diesel part. I had heard they were testing Diesel variations of the 16 x this past year. Of course the Renesis and the 16x have been shown as running gas/ethanol/hydrogen for some time. I have no doubt they have continued looking at diesel as an alternative as well, especially in light of them bringing the Sky Diesel to the states in the 6. Wasn't there even a white paper about diesel in the rotary "recently"?
There are other reasons to take these rumors with large grains of salt. The economy is still very fragile, and while Mazda is in a relatively solid financial position, they are not about to blow a ton of money ....
Of course this is always right , particularly with Mazda as they have a very timid streak in the company. It could lead them to not build anything. You've got to keep telling them that yes you want it by asking at dealerships and emailing them and leaving comments here and at rotary news and the magazine forums.
On another note- I think that thre is a good possibility of an all wheel drive hybrid with rotary or reciprocal engine driving the front and electric motor the back (or viceversa) that recent patent by mazda for the offset drive is one reason (and it showed a MX-5 chassis) and this rumor about the next Focus RS http://rumors.automobilemag.com/6668...zed/index.html If that RS rumor comes to truth I would bet it will be using the Mazda offset.

1. RX-7/RX-9 will be shipping in 2013. In order for this to happen, the a RX-7 concept would need to be shown very, very soon. It may not be the same four+ year process as the RX-Evolv-to-RX-8 went through, but two years is pushing it. The concept of a sports car is fairly standard. The RX-8's concept of a 4-door-sports-car was a new one for the RX-Evolv in 1999, it took over 4 years to bring that to market after the concept was accepted. Since there will be no Tokyo Autoshow in 2010 (it is a commercial truck show every even year, and a passenger car show every odd year) the time-line to produce a RX-7 becomes even more compressed. Tokyo is more than likely where the concept car would debut, however there are other choices...

I would look to this years LA Autoshow for the debut of the new concept car. MNAO is near by. Mazda no longer has a connection with Detroit. New York doesn't seem likely. They have debuted cars at Chicago before and it does have the highest attendance in N.A.
The Scirocco is sold in Europe and not in N.A., so it must have been a E.U. writer that made the comparison.

1)more mature and premium feel
2)japanese "Alfa Romeo"
3)and the press release of Senku concept was speaking about those concepts......
here an extract:
"The pursuit of dreams and confident self-expression are becoming more widespread among mature drivers. Mazda SENKU, 'a four-seater rotary sports car for adults', offers a radical new departure in satisfying these desires. "

......For all its impressive technology, perhaps the most impressive is the 238 HP Mazda Renesis rotary engine that powers the 1,090 lb. racecar - the same exact rotary engine you'll find in any Mazda RX-8 on the street today..... (MAZDAUSA)
wish the 8 was just as light. Lipo Suction on the 8, and lets call it a day MAZDA!

Going for broke
Thats a good question I think they just do that more or less as a design note and they probable wont make it into production. Overall the car isnt bad looking maybe a few tweeks and itll be perfect.
