police34, i disagree with most of your statements. although some laws are there for a reson, some are absolutley absurd. come the end of the month, cops here (long island) are at every corner looks to give out bs tickets b/c they didn't meet their quota.
i've gotten a bs NO front license plate ticket b/c i've only had one screw holding it, it ws rattling, so i took it off that morning and put it on the front windshield... it was clearly visible, but he decides to give me a ticket anyway. it was for $125.
However, many other cars here drive without license plates and it seems to be ok.
Also, cops are extremely biased. if they pull over a "hot" girl, or any girl - they seem to let it slide. my sister has been pulled over for numerous occasions, "fake cry" and badaboom... they're free to go. that's bs.
lastly, i've seen MANY cops' cars (young cops), and they have a lot of things illegal... too low, tints too dark, loud exhaust, and i guarantee you, they've never seen a ticket.
ONE LAST NOTE. we have these things called PBA cards, pins, etc... (POLICE BENEVOLENCE ASSOCIATION) and if you show the car, or show the PIN, if you want to go extreme, even if you're doing 110mph on a 55mph, the cops let you go b/c you're a friend of a cop or a son of a cop, or anything
i have a friend who's dad's a detective, speeds like a maniac in his jeep or dad's xj8 (jaguar), and he's never seen a ticket...
that's absolute trash.

yea...i want those cards here...
I disagree with the whole hot chick comment though. Maybe its just because i'm a horrible fake cryer, and both times i got pulled over i couldn't pull it off....but i'd like to think i'm not ugly, and i still got slammed with a nice ticket, a laugh in the face and a threatening to move it up one MPH to the next price...
SOME cops will let chicks go...but they will also let some guys go. Sure there will always be a biased, but at the same time, if a chick pulls over a hot guy, it works the same way right?

It's not a cops choice one day to just catch speeders. It's an agency operation to crack down on speeders. If a ''ricer'' decides to speed and gets caught then so be it. This is an issue that someone not involved in law enforcement wont understand. I see exactly where your coming from. Your tax dollars are not being wasted on cops chasing speeders. I have a big problem with that statement. That is being ignorant. Tax dollars are going to be spent whether people like it or not. My tax dollars go to the same thing yours do.
I also don't believe for a second that police don't pick and choose who they harass or ticket. There is a notorious speed track in a town about 20 minutes from me, squads line up sometimes 5 in a row and pull speeders over on a strip of highway. The only people they pullover are coming from Illinoise, they will never setup on the other entrance rap going south towards IL. Also if you take a look at the average car that is pulled over it becomes pretty clear that police in my area at least are not going after your average middle-upper middleclass person, they clearly target certain demographics.

naked is always good.. random though
however, in my area (high Mid class), the only people i ever see pulled over, sorry to say, are hispanics, and blacks... i've never seen a jew or asian pulled over in this area. Only ricers and other "iced" out cars... it's a shame
and i have my friends who speed along all the time.... nvm, i get pulled over too, so as for cops, i am very very very not favorable to them.
when i went to the police station to ask about my license plate ticket, they basicaly shoo'ed me away...
pathetic really.

better late than never.
I'm of the opinion that street racing is kind of silly, so i would never participate as a driver or a spectator. However, the measures described in the originating post seem absurd to me. It's taking things too far. Granted, something needs to be done if drugs and guns are getting into things, but for regular racing, the punishment should be more mild. Proportionally, i'm willing to bet that street racers don't kill nearly as many people as the average everyday stupidity that plagues the streets of ANY country.
My solution to this entire problem along with other restrictions on the roads is something i've been wanting to share for some time. Maybe someone will actually read this...
After the regular driver's license tests (parallel parking, 3-point turns, etc), you take willing drivers to a road course that has a healthy dose of chicanes, hairpin turns, sweeping curves, ups and downs and everything in between. Small fee to participate of course. You get some qualified person to decide on a set of lap times that separate people into classes of licenses. Based on the class or category the person falls into, you decide what that driver can and cannot do on the road. Category A drivers (top drivers) get to drive over the speed limit in any given situation by X amount of MPH. Category F drivers are the ones that either passed on the option to follow the program, or are the ones that are so utterly retarded on the road that they shouldn't be allowed to ever drive while speaking on a cell phone, drinking coffee, putting on make-up or break the speed limit. Category F drivers don't get to have any fun and make room for the Category A drivers. That way, when a cop sees an EVO and an STi chasing one another down the freeway doing 110MPH, he'll look up the license plates and go "damn, they're Cat. A drivers..." and leaves them be.

horrible idea -- but would be cool though.. haha
and police34, am i stereotyping... in a bit. but don't say that my comments are what makes law enforcement worse b/c that's what i see. do i know what a hispanic/blacks generally look like? yes - generally i do. And i live in an area where the general population is jewish, and i've yet to see a white person pulled over... sad really.
also - what's so bad about what i said?

I know its been said before but why don't they just make more tracks? Tracks that open at night and cater to the specific needs of street racing?
In my area and most areas skateboarding turned into a real problem. Kids were using the drive-in curbs at banks and spots in parking lots creating problems for businesses, destruction of private property, and compromising the safety of the kids. Finally the ol' lightbulb went off with someone at the Park's and Recreations department and agencies started building skate parks. I see them everywhere now, and they offer much much more than a bank or a parking lot. And most importantly I don't see the kids out on private property anymore. The skate parks are filled.
There are plenty of shut down airports and other areas to make this happen, and why not make it "street racer specific"? I understand there is that appealing danger that can only be created with actual street racing, but maybe if the resources were available racers would think twice?

Arresting Spectators?
Since when does a US citizen get arrested for witnessing a crime? So, if I'm driving down the road and see a street race I should close my eyes?

yes close them quickly because if you see it your a criminal!....this is insane...especially if your taking cars away....what happens if im racing and i get caught....i still have several years to pay my car off...you think if i cant have it im gonna make any payments?!?....they cant take personal property away unless its used in a major federal crime such as murder....and street racing aint even close to that level of offense....i agree with taking it to the track but then again im not going to stop driving spirited either....i dont make a habit of it but if some one gets silly with me i will get silly back....jaehyun127 also has a point about profiling cuz it happens every where.....the state that im in was probably one of the most publicized because of police antics of the parkway and turnpike...im not saying all cops are bad but there are a ton of them out there that abuse their power.....i have several friends that are cops here in jersey and they tell me horror stories...police34 im sure your a decent cop but i can almost certainly tell you that your in the minority.....i have encountered many more bad apples than good ones....and im not even talking about getting myself in trouble...im talking on a personal note

you can get in trouble if you are posted up sitting or standing watching them.
its not if you just drive by or see one by mistake or accident
